-Push the beg button

-Cross the street with the light

-Driver barrels towards crosswalk ignoring person and light while looking at phone

But seriously, what the fuck is the point of beg buttons and traffic lights if we're still going to blame the pedestrian for getting hit by a car that isn't respecting the rules of the road? Fucking carbrained ass society.

What the fuck am I going to do with the sound of a car on a road??? I hear that all the time. All the time. Whether I'm crossing the street or not. I'm inside my house sitting at my computer right now and I can hear the sound of cars on the road. What exactly are you expecting me to do with the information that there is a car traveling down the road?! I know there is! There always is! I don't need to hear it to know that! That's why we have STREET LIGHTS and ROAD LAWS which mean that cars are supposed to stop traveling down the road in predictable situations such as WHEN THE LIGHT IS RED or WHEN IM CROSSING THE STREET

ITS A SIGNALISED CROSSING

HES THE ONE BREAKING LIKE MULTIPLE LAWS

eta: like literally tho how do you even equivocate between literally running a red light and hitting someone, and literally just using an actual pedestrian crossing

death to America (incl Canada)

Yes like what about deaf people? Or people caring for screaming children that are louder than EVs? Or people crossing the road near any sort of construction?

[-] LeylaLove@hexbear.net 4 points 11 months ago

I drive an old prius. It's completely silent when traveling below 10 miles an hour or so. If I'm exiting a parking lot and didn't back in, there is no audio cues.

[-] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 52 points 11 months ago

She literally did nothing wrong, it's the drivers fault for looking down at his phone, the fuck

Just you wait until car manufacturers will start putting Tandem charge heads on the front bumpers. Mainly for SUVs

Push the beg button and use the crosswalk? Who cares, if you wear a hoodie you should die.

There’s class warfare, all right, but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war, and we’re winning.

I no longer cross at zebra crossings if a car is coming even if I have 'right of way', given how frequently drivers just blitz through. The other day I spoke to a lady in her 70s who was taking PT to the local shopping centre to do her exercise there, rather than walk around the neighbourhood, because a car clipped her walking frame when she was crossing with the lights and she cracked her skull.

Shit's fucked. I don't want to become roadkill. Carbrains have won.

[-] gabaghoul@hexbear.net 19 points 11 months ago

There was a 90 year old who was smashed and killed walking down the road in a town nearby yesterday. I don't want to be old just so I can become roadkill.

[-] CarbonScored@hexbear.net 14 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I've started doing the opposite. Thankfully I'm fairly tall and easily seen, so I frequently am the one to just walk out in front of cars who aren't respecting road safety. Not in the middle of the highway, but if right of way is at all dubious, I've started claiming pedestrian / cyclist always wins. It's a battle I'll become roadkill to fight.

[-] egg1918@hexbear.net 8 points 11 months ago

Hell they'll even swerve around you in the crosswalk rather than stop for 10 seconds.

Comrade bus drivers always stop at the crosswalk for pedestrians though

[-] Einstein@hexbear.net 41 points 11 months ago

This is the way things have gone here in the UK for the past few years. They look for excuses to let the driver off. A few years ago a cyclist got killed a few miles from where I live. He'd ridden up the bridge and the driver had hit him so hard from behind it'd torn his body apart. The cyclist was just riding to work to earn a pittance to support his family. The police kept coming out with excuses: "The sun was in the driver's eyes!" (The sun was coming from behind, and if so why didnt the driver slow down, use his shades?) "The cyclist should have had lights!" (It was fucking daylight, you cretins, plus witnesses said the rider HAD lights on!) "The cyclist had hiviz on but his backpack covered a small bit of it, making it impossible for the driver to see him!" (so he HAD hiviz on, it was visible, daylight and good visibility but the driver couldnt have gone into any of the other 2 lanes and avoided the guy?)

The courts upheld the Police's views and let the driver off

This is honestly why I tell people commuting to work to get moto gear. Having an impact rated helmet and pads, padded hard knuckles, and your countries self defense option of choice tucked in your jacket is the only real insurance policy for murderously negligent cagers. Bike helmets aren't suitable for road riding. Although I don't know if CE back armor would help a man who got hit hard enough to "[tear] his body apart". Although I suspect thats more describing the severe road rash that requires expensive moto gear to prevent.

Unseriously: I as a patriotic American keep a 200. caliber AT hand mortar on me for all my bike rides for self defense reasons.

Ugh, ugh, ugh

Fuckin awesome that the people driving 5 ton death machines can try and equivocate walking around with slamming their death machines into people

All of them are getting taped down to pedestrian crossings when we get to power.

[-] vertexarray@hexbear.net 29 points 11 months ago

Pedestrians should carry antimateriel rifles and destroy cars as they approach until all lanes are blocked in order to safely cross

[-] TraumaDumpling@hexbear.net 3 points 11 months ago

pedestrians should have powered armor equipped with flare/chaff/smoke launchers, deployable explosive and recon drones, hull mounted active protection system, ERA blocks, thermal and infrared optical systems, and a novel magazine fed variant of the Carl G. 84mm recoilless rifle as a primary armament. with a high capacity machine gun/automatic rifle using some kind of AP ammo mounted to the offhand arm. then it might be almost safe to cross the street lol.

they won't even paint a crosswalk for a nearby mosque where i live, they have a cop sit on the side of the road waiting for someone to get hit. no one directing traffic or holding a sign or anything. at least 1 or 2 people have already died because of this that i've heard of.

[-] uralsolo@hexbear.net 4 points 11 months ago

Bike lanes? Naw naw, we're putting in Mobile Suit lanes.
