He's already dehumanising foreigners (claiming they're all criminals and eating peoples pets) and trying to claim LGBTI are criminals

So, it's not actually a joke. He has already started following the Nazi playbook

The dem message of "we won't do better but the other guy will do worse" failed. It was a bad message and it lost them the election against a terrible candidate. Voters need to be motivated to vote and that message isn't motivating enough

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 10 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Right, it wasn't the media harping on every single thing the Dem candidate did wrong while apologizing and making excuses for Trump at every turn. Going on and on about Biden's age and then never bringing up age again once Biden dropped out of the race. No it's all the Dems fault 🙄

That was never the democrat's message.

What you are describing is the disinformation that you fell for.

[–] FreakinSteve@lemmy.world 9 points 6 hours ago

Harris's nomination acceptance speech was around 70% right wing positions. Undeniable.

[–] MisterScruffy@lemmy.ml 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

I watched multiple speeches given by kamala and I watched the debate. This is the message I came away with and judging by the outcome of the election Im thinking that's the message most people got. Intention is irrelevant perception is what matters and they failed

[–] Uruanna@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Except Harris did mention Trump's age a few times (after the first debate). If you didn't see it, you only looked at the disinformation channels, or it got drowned out by them.

[–] SquatDingloid@lemmy.world 2 points 42 minutes ago

Well no dems voted for Trump, and his voters don't care about his age because it's a cult of personality

Aight, I am going to say that I misused left when I mean liberal in some places so I have edited it.

They haven't done that... Yet. As FD Signifier said, "you can't out-right the right". Democrats screwed themselves in many ways this election such as letting Biden hang onto his candidacy when he was unpopular and not communicating their plans to the public as much as they should have, and because of how fresh it is everyone is looking for someone, or some group, to blame. At the risk of defending Harris, which I'm not because I didn't like a lot of what she said, she really only had 100 days to actually put together a campaign. Trump has been campaigning since he left office. The truth is that this has been a long time coming and the American failure to recognize that is was ACTUALLY led to this. Well, that and the fact that Harris was a black woman. Racism and misogyny hard carried this election term in addition to the unpopular policies Harris proposed. As unpopular as those policies were though, the number don't show that the policies are what lost her the election.

I also blame this on left leaning influencers AND news sites because they spent more time making fun of Trump than actually saying anything to convince the right to vote for Harris. Again, I'm not even saying that I agreed with Harris, but she would have been better for a LOT of minority people than we know Trump is. Laughing at Trump working a closed down McDonald's is one thing, but they didn't do much else. This is the reason I'm kind of done with the online liberals in general. They spend so much time making fun of people that they don't realize we need people on the left to be in positions of power before things can change in a meaningful way. And they need to actually EDUCATE people. Not just tell them "how it is", but tell them WHY it is. The liberal media got cocky and so they contributed to Trump winning. They never brought up that he was a felon, a rapist, or attempted a coup. Nothing.

Only 100 days? In Europe 100 days is more than the time between they call for elections and the elections are done. Even if they are before the end of the term.

[–] MisterScruffy@lemmy.ml 2 points 8 hours ago

The dems lost this election when unpopular senile Biden insisted on running again and no powerful Democrat stopped him

I mean it's quite different. Hitler wasn't elected (at least not prior to seizing power and effectively banning all opposition). Instead the Nazis got a plurality of just 33% in the Reichstag election, which led to failure to form a government. Then Hitler somehow convinced the center right President to grant him powers which he promptly started abusing and the rest is history.

In other words, 1930s Germany can kind of defend itself in ways the US can't.

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 5 points 5 hours ago

He got elected deomocratically. In the German system, one party gaining the absolute majority is very rare and coalition governments are the norm. The cancellor is usually the candidate of the party with the largest percentage in that coalition. In the case of the NSDAP, that was Hitler. The conservatives formed a coaltion with him because they were sure the conservative president would be able to keep Hitler in check. Unfortunately, said president did the opposite and was instrumental in giving Hitler absolute power.

[–] Strawberry@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 5 hours ago

Donald Trump just won with a plurality of around 31% of eligible voters

We are removing "gaslighting" from our active vocabulary for a day or two, aren't we?

Uniparty-L-tards still repeating the same retarded analogies.. and talking points.. and faux-intellecualism they learned from the "rational wiki" and co.

Wishful-thinking Harris into becoming a landslide winner failed. How surprising. How surprising.

Will they ever learn? Doubtful.

The audacity and shamelessness of some to even mention Palestine is on a whole other level though. Like only now things will get seriously bad! Like Gaza hasn't been flattened multiple times over already. Like America itself under the uniparty rule isn't the most recent/current number 1 committer of genocides around the world. Like the uniparty-L-tards haven't put some of the faces of previous war crimes at the front of their fake-it-til-you-make-it campaign.

I guess if Madeleine "500,000 dead Iraqi children is worth it" Albright can be a part of the "woke" twitter echo chamber for years, then anything goes.

  1. Get organized. Join a Leftist org, find solidarity with fellow comrades, and protect each other. The Dems will not save you, it is up to the Workers to protect themselves. The Party for Socialism and Liberation and Freedom Road Socialist Organization both organize year round, every year, because the battle for progress is a constant struggle, not a single election. See if there is a chapter near you, or start one! Or, see if there's an org you like more near you and join it, the point is that organizing is the best thing any leftist can do.

  2. Read theory. A good primer is Blackshirts and Reds. It will help contextualize what fascism is, what causes it, and how to stop it. I can offer a good introductory reading list for Marxism if you'd like, but this is a good starting point.

  3. Aggressively combat white supremacy, misogyny, queerphobia, and other attacks on marginalized communities. Cede no ground.

  4. Be more industrious, and self-sufficient. Take up gardening, home repair, tinkering. It is through practice that you elevate your problem-solving capabilities. Not only will you improve your skill at one subject, but your general problem-solving muscles get strengthened as well. Theory guides practice, which sharpens theory to be reapplied to better practice.

  5. Learn self-defense. Get armed, if practical. Be ready to protect yourself and others. The Democrats will not save us, we must save each other.

  6. Be persistent. If you feel like a single water driplet against a mountain, think of the Grand Canyon. Oh, how our efforts pile up! With consistency, every rock, boulder, even mountain, can be drilled through with nothing but steady and persistent water droplets.

You think we're not just as confused how it happened this time?

First they came for the illegal immigrants and I did not speak out because I was a legal citizen.

Then they came for the LGBTQ members and I did not speak out because I am straight.

Then they came for the non-whites and I did not speak out because I am white.

Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak for me.

[–] buddascrayon@lemmy.world 22 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

You should amend this because it's not just "illegal" immigrants they are after. The rhetoric around the Haitians in Ohio is clearly directed at any and all immigrants legal or not.

Germany, Jan 1933 = USA, Jan 2025

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Yes. And everyone who actually knew a bit of history should have seen all the signs. Americans, your history teachers failed you big time.

[–] Jollyllama@lemmy.world 17 points 13 hours ago

Its a buffet for the leopards. They'll coast on Biden's policies for a bit, when Trump plans take affect we'll see.
