That’s very interesting, we have much in common. Usually at the beginning of the dream cycle I’m easily fooled and I just after waking up I realise the absurdity of the things that happened. By the end of the dream many erratic and absurd situations happened so I’m gonna be aware that I’m in the dream state.

This new approach approach is making me conscious during all the last cycles.

I started that way too but over time this technique lost it’s efficiency. By the time I got good at reading everything became so real.

I didn’t know that but it checks out for me. In fact I struggle with identifying my emotions. I am very empathetic and I get what others are feeling but when it comes to understand what I’m feeling I’m lost.

While dreaming my ultimate reality-checker is water since I can’t dive into it. But if you don’t live in Hawaii you can imagine it’s not very practical. I tried all sorts of techniques but all of them stopped working after some time. I tried finger counting, seeing my reflection, coin tossing. The technique that lasted the most was making a flame with a lighter that didn’t work.

A false-awakening is the moment when you wake up and you proceed doing the things you normally do but in reality you’re still dreaming. In my opinion it’s a clever way of the subconscious to trick you into believing that you’re awake and see how you would act in real life.

Today I had an epiphany. As soon as I woke up I started writing into my dream journal. Like I always do. In the last false awakening I was crying desperately because someone ripped off the pages from my diary and I couldn’t remember the previous dreams I had. I had 4 false awakenings in a row and the most difficult dreams to recognise are always the last ones.

So finally I’m going to try a new technique that makes me feel very confident. From now on my reality-checker is going to be the diary itself. I’ll keep you posted. What’s your experience with reality-checkers?

After my vacation at the sea I realised that water is my ultimate reality-checker. There is just no way I can submerge in my dreams and this way I can recognise when I’m dreaming. Now I’m back in the city so I will no longer have the opportunity to go for a swim but I think I found a solution.. I’ll make a new post about this topic.

Yes, it’s harder to float in lakes.

The state of passivity that you’re talking about I think it’s quite common and quite useful from an evolutionary point of view. I once had built an entire fake city filled with fake people in my teenage years. Needless to say I was heavily depressed since I valued more the dream state than waking life. It’s all about balance.

Interesting, it’s like the subconscious puts the dangerous stuff beneath the water surface. For a long time there was a conflict from me and it. The subconscious tries to let me experience (and therefor act) the dream if as I was awake. I on the other hand want to have control over it. In this journey I’ve learned that instead of trying to establish dominance it’s a matter of cooperation. But still my subconscious won’t let me face my greatest fears.

In waking life I dive with no problems up to 3 meters below the sea level. Once I dove into Krk lake, crystal clear water aside, it was an amazing experience since buoyancy was weaker.

I’ve never been able to submerge into the depths of water. I even dreamed about my mother falling through a trapdoor attached to the seabed and I couldn’t do anything about it. I can swim and walk on it but I can’t immerse myself into it.

Yesterday I made a community for lucid dreamers. If you’re interested https://discuss.online/c/lucid_dreamers

Hahahah yeah I feel you. False awakenings are the worst. I have a theory about them, probably I’m going to address this in one post of the community I linked above! Ps. I’m a thief in dreams. My main purpose is to steal information and bring them into waking life. As soon as I get up I start writing. And then I wake up again and start writing again. It’s like there is a police like force that prevents me from bringing the most valuable information out. My record of most false awakening in a row is 5. But again I would like to discuss these things in the community so others can join the conversation.

At one point you could realize that you are a dream figure in another person's dream. The advantage of meeting others in the dream state is that one of them may present you to yourself.

Hi everyone, I made a community specifically for lucid dreaming. If you’re able to control some aspects of your world in the dream state you are welcome. https://discuss.online/c/lucid_dreamers If you’re able just to recall dreams and you experience them unaware that is a dream just stick to this community instead.

Those nebulas are called Pillars of Creation, picture taken by JWST.

Have you ever heard about dream yoga or milam? The practice of dream yoga is one of falling asleep with awareness, aka lucid dreaming. It is interesting how we use that term ‘falling asleep’. One does not creep asleep, or climb asleep or jump asleep – one falls asleep. I always find language interesting, because it often talks about our experience that is hidden in the words at some level. Ultimately, finding common - but hidden - expirences/meaning/symbols in our dreams is the purpose of this community.

The picture is a fresco from the gallery of the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi in Florence. It depicts Charon's boat, the sleep of Night and Morpheus by Luca Giordano (1684–1686)
