No brain or no heart. Either you want a world where the vast majority of people are expendable slave labor to a tiny clique of soulless husks until we all boil to death or you don't realize that's the inevitable endpoint of your system.

"You must be a capitalist by the time you're 40" is just equivalent to

[–] Comment105@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago (4 children)

It seems like either you or I might've completely misunderstood something here, please explain the equivalence.

They are saying that people who live to be over forty (especially in the U.S) are more likely to be rich, and therefore pro-capitalism, since poorer people are much more likely to die young.

[–] ButtBidet@hexbear.net 31 points 1 year ago

He's saying that if you're a leftist, you're much more likely to die early.

this diagram is showing where planes that got shot and returned to base. a naive approach to the problem would be to reinforce the bits that got shot up. except what this diagram is actually showing is where planes can get shot and still safely return home - the places where there's NO damage are the critical areas of the plane since no plane returned home after sustaining damage to those parts. that is, it's a diagram showing survivorship bias.

Shortly before his death, as he was failing in mind and body, Molotov, who was cared for by his grandchildren, was watching TV one day when Soviet Foreign Minister, Edvard Shevardnadze came on the news making some statement. Molotov rose from chair in a rage, shouting “What the hell is he saying! That’s revisionism! Pure revisionism! Worse than revisionism! Has he gone off his head? I hope Stalin hasn’t gotten wind of this yet, or there’ll be hell to pay. Tell Shevardnadze I want to see him in my office TODAY at 4:00 pm SHARP. And he better have a good explanation for this garbage!”

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 31 points 1 year ago

Yes, because evil Stalin forced women to get an education.

The stupider version of this quote that says yall need to be capitalism supporters by 30 or so , believes in the myth called upward mobility ! Which despite of what economy has been , was not true for majority of the working class !

[–] SoyViking@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

No heart and no spine either btw

[–] nocages@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago (1 children)

[–] silent_water@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

if someone is brainless, they're dead. if someone is braindead, they're still a person.

[–] Stoatmilk@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A braindead person is definitely dead too

[–] silent_water@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

no, braindead people can go on living as long aa they're intubated and fed. the autonomic processes continue on.

[–] kugupu@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

[–] ThomasMuentzner@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago

Yeah, the original quote never made sense to me. As you age and get closer to death you naturally become more empathetic to the people around you, not less.

[–] axont@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The quote implies that you gain wealth and privilege as you age, eventually to the point where you're a home owner paranoid of their own neighbors. The idea is that you're a white person living in an imperialist country and that you were a leftist during college, but afterwards you got a management job at your dad's factory and realized capitalism is good, actually.

[–] nekahat@hexbear.net 1 points 1 year ago

Perfect, that's exactly it.

[–] flan@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

Objectively true.
