Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). 3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. 4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.

My god, the man is insane. And people are talking about how unfit Biden is because he mixes up world leaders and dates?

[–] thisorthatorwhatever@lemmy.world 120 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Interesting to learn so much about how Fascism works, because of Trump. Making crazy statements, as a type of blind loyalty test is instinctual for fascist leaders. Alienates his followers from normal people, forces them to believe in even crazier things.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 85 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I would prefer to learn this in a theoretical, not practical, way, thank you very much.

[–] maynarkh@feddit.nl 31 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yep, it's like toxicology, learning by doing is not advised.

Which, tbh, are already confusing for someone who hasn't been in the game for decades on end.

[–] Riccosuave@lemmy.world 23 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I guess I am unfit for office because I forget everyone's name about 3 minutes after they tell me. If I haven't met you several times I am just never remembering your name.

[–] 0110010001100010@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago (1 children)

My wife took me to a going away party for one of her co-workers where I literally only knew her (obviously) and the neurosurgeon she works for. She introduced me to like 30 people over the course of the evening then would ask days/weeks later "do you remember so and so?" I forgot their names they moment we moved on, lol.

Meanwhile Trump has never even heard of these people or what happened on those dates...

Instead we get classics like this from the certified genius ..

"Person, Woman, Man, Camera, TV. See how smart I am, not many people can remember 5 things.."

and

"that dementia test was quite challenging but I passed it, not many other people would be smart enough to pass it"

[–] kowcop@aussie.zone 14 points 10 months ago (3 children)

If he loses again, what is to stop him trying again in 2028?

[–] Cryophilia@lemmy.world 31 points 10 months ago (1 children)

A heart attack, god willing

He is very vaguely suggesting the Dems will purge all connections to the past. It's a calculated talking point. He isn't insane or stupid; he is evil.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 14 points 10 months ago (4 children)

It sounds insane and stupid, so I'm not sure that matters.

"I promise you this, with me at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, no one will lay a finger on your firearms — just as took place for four years when I was your president,"

Trump banned bump stocks, which laid the basis for the pistol brace ban, both of which conservative 2a meisters absolutely love, right? And this was at a NRA conference? I don't get how people know he did that and hate him for it, but will immediately forget their hatred in order to defend him on any other ground. MAGA is a cult.

[–] 0110010001100010@lemmy.world 54 points 10 months ago

He also has said:

Take the guns first, go through due process second

So yeah...

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 49 points 10 months ago (3 children)

He was worse for guns than Biden. How the fuck do these people reconcile this shit with their beliefs?

[–] Untitled4774@sh.itjust.works 22 points 10 months ago

R beside name = good D beside name = bad

I think they write it on the back of their hand just in case too

[–] PoliticalAgitator@lemmy.world 16 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (4 children)

Being a member of the pro-gun community already requires living in a fantasy. A few more lies and hollow promises shouldn't be a problem for them.

Besides, this shit is easy when you've got no integrity at all. Just say anything. "Trump banned bump stocks so that it could be struck down by the Supreme Court and then the deep state wouldn't be able to take our guns but we didn't vote and pray and donate hard enough so we better go even more cultish and far-right to fix it"

The evil libs are gonna rename it Pedovania and kick out all the straight white christians and turn the state into an adrenochrome harvesting child sex facility!

and because we live in a post-poe world, I have to emphasize, emphatically, that this is sarcasm.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 23 points 10 months ago (7 children)

[–] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 14 points 10 months ago

Penn was a slave owner but among plutocrats in the 1600s he's about as good as it gets. He treated native Americans well (and to whatever extent you want to credit it, he treated his slaves better than most) and liked democracy and religious freedom.

So if you want to credit the morsel of an idea here, he is probably trying to say that even though Penn was an OK guy relative to the times, he could get "cancelled" because he was a slave owner and then "they" would force the state to change its name because Penn was canceled.

But obviously, half muttering nonsense that can be interpreted favorably by anyone with whatever beliefs if they so choose is Trump's super power so I'm all for reading this uncharitably and just saying he's being weird and crazy.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 13 points 10 months ago (2 children)

They’ll make it the commonpoverty of Pennsylvania!
