I wish hexbear was like this, instead they fellate capitalist imperialist autocrats like Putin because it feels cooler to be a contrarian than class conscious to them.

[–] CoderKat@lemm.ee 27 points 1 year ago

Yeah, it's so weird that they're sooooo in love with Russia and China. They claim to be communist and/or socialist, but those countries aren't what I'd consider to be either of those things. They're just... regular ol' dictatorships full of human rights abuses. Why the hell would they want to support them?

Hexbear is good for one thing and one thing alone: Tearing the incoming wave of neo-fascists from reddit a new one. Regulars know not to mess with them but newcomers will try (and fail) to debate them which always results in hilarity and a lot of accounts getting banned.

[–] nwordsayer@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

You're making hexbear sound more badass than they really are. In reality, they're chapo rentoids who live in mommy's basement

[–] yetAnotherUser@feddit.de 10 points 1 year ago

But but but billionaire nationalist dictator from country opposing "west" = opposing capitalism = supporting (my flavor of) communism good???

Seriously, how do you even arrive at such conclusions? What would Russia et al need to do to be perceived as worse than "the west"?

[–] Lianodel@ttrpg.network 5 points 1 year ago

Yeah, that drove me absolutely up the wall. Russia's economy was liberalized after the fall of the Soviet Union, and China even invited Milton Goddamn Friedman to consult on their economic plans.

I wish they'd stay to hexbear. I had a post on lemmy.ml removed two days ago because I mentioned how China removes gay characters from their movies. They then banned me for two weeks. Another one removed for suggesting it'd be a bad idea to let North Korea host FIFA.

That FIFA post was insane. Endless comments saying it'd be a good idea or that America is a criminal monster so of course North Korea should have FIFA. I have never blocked so many people in my life.

This is why I laughed when I saw the post on lemmy.ml with that screenshot from reddit of a user complaining about Lemmy.

All the comments were acting as if everything the user said was wrong and Lemmy has no problems.

This site has a shit ton like how you experienced.

Bear in mind that some instances blocked Hexbear and similar. This means that what people perceive as the fediverse can be very different. Some instances are super curated while others see warts and all.

Plus some users have blocked the instance on their side. Easy to forget how bad things are when you utilize blocking.

But we (as a collective) do need to remember that what we experience isn't the same as what a potential new member experiences. Which is why I now advocate defederating instances like Hexbear. I really didn't want to for a while, but eventually it became clear that they're too aggressive and bad for the fediverse as a whole.

Every once in a while I see people criticizing Beehaw and Blahaj for censorship or being too sensitive. Like... I don't have to see quite as much garbage, thanks.

[–] Default_Defect@midwest.social 3 points 1 year ago

Mine hasn't blocked anything as far as I know. The majority of content I see is fine though, its just that little bit that gets... wild. I'm a bit used to seeing shit takes and actual unhinged lunacy from twitter and reddit though, so it not too jarring.

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Man, I still have RedReader installed on my phone so very occasionally I take a look at reddit. Don't engage, I mean I couldn't if I tried anyway since they banned me for saying Fuck Spez, but my god. Either I was blind to how insanely toxic/hateful it was or it has gotten significantly worse in the past two months.

[–] Mr_Buscemi@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh yeah it's gotten toxic there too. I get linked to reddit stuff a lot by friends so I sometimes read the comments. People are so angry there.

It began getting more intolerable in June before all the bullshit happened. Can't imagine how it would be to just use Reddit alone now.

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I go out of my way to making sure that I come off as calm-headed, polite and as calm as I can. Mainly because I used to be one of those angry redditors who lashed out at everyone. I just... fuck. Did I really used to be that bad?

I swear my blood pressure has dropped since joining Lemmy. Especially over where I call home, Startrek.website

[–] Mr_Buscemi@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

That site really brought the worse out in people lol. I actually had a user curse me out in modmail because I removed a post of theirs for animal cruelty. Had to quit modding there because my blood pressure was getting worse each time I opened the app. Actually got my blood pressure taken last week for the first time since June and it was super low, so I will always now say leaving Reddit did it lol.

Lemmy in areas such as this or your instance are some of my favorite places on this site. No stress or users who want to cause issues with others.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

FIFA needs to be defederated from the real world. Soccer is cool, and y'all should definitely keep that around, but damn, I think the cocaine cartels in Bolivia are a bit less corrupt than FIFA

[–] iegod@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago (3 children)

You likely would have been removed anyway, lemmy.ml also swings that way.

[–] princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Are you thinking of lemmygrad.ml? lemmy.ml is the second largest instance.

[–] Socsa@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lemmy.ml banned me last week for discussing the mass deportation of Ukrainian children.

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Huh? I was talking about lemmy.ml. Also said that they removed me. Did you mean another instance?

[–] iegod@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah I can't read. I read hexbear and my brain did me dirty.

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 2 points 1 year ago

You all good buddy! Shit happens. I fell asleep on top of my keyboard a couple hours ago. I feel you.

Swings Marxist, yes. Calls everyone that disagrees with them a Nazi?

Well, not openly.

[–] Franzia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago
