while a single golf course exists on this earth this shit is bullshit

[-] anaesidemus@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago

golf was invented in Scotland, instead of adapting the game to other locales they try to turn other places into Scotland.

and even in the correct climate the labour involved in making and maintaining a golf course is mindboggling

A shower is the only touch I receive

[-] wahwahwah@hexbear.net 41 points 1 year ago

Can't wait to have my water usage severely rationed while pistachio companies continue to gobble up a disproportionate amount of the water supply.

[-] Abracadaniel@hexbear.net 29 points 1 year ago

Growing up my dad went through a phase of wanting me to limit showers to 7 minutes and I'm still not sure whether it was to save money or prevent jerking it.

[-] andthenthreemore@startrek.website 10 points 1 year ago

Why not both

[-] Hohsia@hexbear.net 27 points 1 year ago

Now do the amount of water used to upkeep golf courses/given to animals in factory farms

[-] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

given to animals in factory farms

Wow literally Animal Farm.

[-] Sleve_McDichael@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago

They have billboards like these in my city, meanwhile alfalfa farmers are literally draining aquifers and creeks dry in a dang desert

The Hidden Health Benefits of Slight Dehydration

[-] Einstein@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago

Collect rain water? You can use gravity filtration to make it safe to wash in. Also if farmers or industry is messing with your water supply you should be testing the tap water to see if it is safe (you can buy the kits online)

[-] SpiderFarmer@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago

Damn, 4 minutes is how long I space out.

sorry kids im 800 years old and momma needs a shower/sauna hybrid to function as a living being. maybe pull yourself up by your bootstraps and stop using water on your golf course thats the size of the moon?

[-] jack55555@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

I don’t golf and don’t have a golf course.

[-] kristina@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

looks like youre just gonna have to desiccate your body and sequester its carbon into the ground sweaty, industrial misuse of water is a good thing angel-biblical-shh

This is why I take baths. If I’m gonna sit depressed in water for 2 hours, I’m gonna lay down and it’s gonna be quiet.

[-] BadTakesHaver@hexbear.net 21 points 1 year ago

the noise of showers are also somewhat relaxing though. they need to invent noisier baths

[-] ilyenkov@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago

Bath tubs are all too small for me to comfortably lay down in one :(

[-] SootySootySoot@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

"Water saving baths" are all so pointless because they're too small for me to sit in without impaling myself on a faucet, they may as well not exist but they're becoming the norm here. The rare treat of being in a house with an actually large-sized bath is lovely.

[-] SerLava@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

God I need a bigger bath

[-] MamaVomit@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago

Four minutes?! I'm in trouble

[-] Comp4@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

Four minutes does sound rough. I think I can work with 10...maybe 8 but anything less would barley feel worth it. Unless you are rationing water for environmental reasons (fair enough in that case)

[-] MarmaladeMermaid@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

A little switch on the shower head that turns the water off while you don’t directly need it can bring the total water running time way down. It keeps the temp constant so you don’t have to fiddle with the knobs every time. Lathering, conditioner leaving in time, shaving, exfoliating, teeth brushing, they don’t need water constantly running.

[-] WashedAnus@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago

If you're really concerned with water conservation, only turn the shower on when you need the water:

  • Step in, turn the water on to rinse/wet your body
  • Turn water off, apply shampoo
  • Turn water on to rinse off shampoo
  • Turn water off, apply conditioner
  • Turn water on to rinse off conditioner
  • You can probably wash your face without turning it off because that shit takes like a second
  • Turn water off, apply soap to your body (including genitals and anus)
  • Turn water on to rinse soap off
  • Turn water off, exit shower

It's not at all relaxing, but it cleans your body and minimizes water usage.

Or, we could have built homes to conserve water in the first place by using grey water multiple times before using it to flush our toilets.

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

I am forced to use too much water because it takes 3+ minutes for the water to heat up in my shitty apartment.

[-] JuneFall@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

Or: Don't live in a single family home, but use efficiency from modern apt. complexes. Those can also re-use gray water to some degree and have a much higher efficiency over building lifetime and inhibitor than single homes. You also need less material.

[-] YarrMatey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 year ago

That's called a navy shower and I absolutely do this on days I wash my hair.

[-] SootySootySoot@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

If you're going this far to save on water, you'll probably be better not using conditioner at least.

I'd also normally say soaping your body is unnecessary, but with so little water it probably is needed.

[-] timconspicuous@lemmy.ml 18 points 1 year ago

sorry, not gonna happen, I need my thirty minute hot showers to compensate for another eight hours of sleep in a cold and lonely bed

[-] alexandra_kollontai@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago
[-] Alch_Fox@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

My conditioner takes 5 minutes to sit in my hair. I'm going to take at least 10 minutes damn it.

[-] largerfather@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago

why not 29 minutes? that too would save water, energy and time compared to a 30-minute shower. how did they land on 4? i think “19 minutes” would have looked nice too.

[-] largerfather@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

btw 4 minutes is totally reasonable

[-] alexandra_kollontai@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

spoken like a he/him

[-] GreatWhiteNope@hexbear.net 19 points 1 year ago

How much hair do you have and what texture?

This is definitely not doable for me. I’m closer to 10 min for a normal shower, could probably do it in 6 if I tried to be speedy.

[-] Saeculum@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

I demand 20 minute showers. There can be no compromise in this fight for dignity.

[-] anaesidemus@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

reasonable yes, comfy? no

[-] NotErisma@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

[cries with my long ndn hair]

[-] Sickos@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

Uh how can I fit ten minutes of sitting on the floor and crying into a four minute shower

[-] Einstein@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

Move to Britain. Sit under the rain. Dont worry about disturbing others as we're all fucking sobbing here, now.

[-] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

I turn off the water when I lather up with soap, and turn it on again to rinse before getting out. So that hopefully saves some water.

[-] Aliveelectricwire@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

In Chicago landlords pay for water. I'm doing praxis by putting it on hot and mist mode and relaxing

[-] JeffBozo@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

Tough luck, bucko. My lawn patch in the middle of the desert that I use solely for ostentatious display of wealth and not to cultivate isn't going to stay green by itself.
