This is probably one of if not the most respectful defederation we've had. Their reasons for doing this are very understandable, and they even said they would refederate once they have the ability to block individual communities, which are illegal in the jurisdiction they host in. Honestly, very pleased with this mature stance on defederation.
General
Feel like you have something to post, but it's not really relevant to any of the current communities, and you don't feel like it's worth making an entirely new community just to post it? This is the place for that.
NSFW content is allowed in this community so long as you mark it as per site rules.
yup, they also implied in another post that if they refederate, they will actually try to get tools to block loli stuff from the front page and from any unwitting spectator, but allow it to be followed and browsed from vlemmy.
on another note, i made a list with all the blocks & blocked, only the first 48 links in the fedidb lemmy list. (here's the json if u wanna play w it)
funny to see this one:
sidenote, the only reason why sopuli hasn't blocked us is prolly cuz they don't know cuz they blocked lemmynsfw.
They definitely seem to be an allied instance. I actually reached out in good faith. Here's a link to the post I made: https://vlemmy.net/comment/777250
and here's just a screenshot for those who don't want to follow links.
I hope we see more instances like vlemmy in the future.
just made a fed tools checking thing to expand my probing later

i'm actually somewhat glad i know of vlemmy now cuz the admin is pretty nice overall :) i was signed up there & left when he announced this but i will keep it at the top of my favorites list for free browsing, maybe when they refed burggit i'll check it again
Uhh, this leads to a 404. It's okay, if you're too shy to share your code, but I just wanted you to know this, in case this was unintentional. :3
set up a new domain, server, gitea service, and repo, all to share it because it sounded like a cool thing to do. 6 hours later: https://git.floathe.co/float/lemmy-federation
and i am not shadowbanned from my own server!!!!
Maybe I'm shadowbanned. I can't see my account without logging in?
I find it interesting contrasting the comments in that thread: https://vlemmy.net/post/586298
With this thread: https://vlemmy.net/post/583052
It's interesting how the tone of the post changes the tone of the comments.
Strange, I wonder why that is. Simply a vocal minority in the second post since it got less traffic? Or maybe seeing an authority figure take a favorable stance, as the VLemmy admin did, had influence?
Simply put: People who go through the effort of commenting under a thread tend to follow the lead of the post in question. Whether it be taking it in the same or the opposite direction, the OP is the one who dictates the flow. Exceptions to this include 'hot button' topics where people have pre-formed opinions and when a community in general is predisposed to being fiery vs cool-headed.
Looking through both threads, and given my experience on the bird website, I lean heavily towards it being an extremely vocal minority, almost certainly padded by off site people brigading, or using multiple accounts, because it's the exact same tired out playbook the bird site antis use
This seems like an opportune moment to ask: is there a post on this site somewhere detailing the legality status by country? There is the every useful wiki page, but still external references would be helpful. For example, take the US. Nominally illegal (ish, and depending on state), but practically seems very difficult to enforce due to ambiguity of language unless you have some other, related, offense.
One of the best resources I have found is this Wikipedia article which goes through basically each country and gives a basic rundown of the laws. I wish the page on exclusively fictional content was as informative as this one is, but unfortunately, it is not. To go even deeper into each country's laws would require you know the language of said country, as I feel most sources would likely be in the country's native language as opposed to english. Since like, it's most likely you'd want to know the laws of a country if you lived in said country, so the most informative information would be in the native language.
we need to liberate ireland from oppression
Start with changing their beers' mascots to lolis. The rest will sort itself out soon enough
like so:
NSFW LOLI
This is the way!
Speaking of, there has to be a better way to detect instances that have defederated. https://fba.ryona.agency definitely isn't listing some of them. It makes our "still federated" list less accurate.
