Please send me 20 doller google play gift card and when I am home I will repay you million dollars. I will be very graceful
In serious, scammers typically make it fake as shit since the people most likely to be scammed are going to overlook it anyways.
I have read that scammers try to make the scams look fake and crappy because they don't want to entice any actually clever people - that's more trouble than it's worth. These are simple.scams for simple people.
Hi Mom! I was coming home from Mike's and some guy mugged me, and I had the rent money in my pocket! Can you Venmo me $900 real quick? My new email is
best.moms.son@gμail.com
. I'll pay you back next Friday when I get paid! Love you!I got one about as good as that on reddit. I received a series of DMs saying that I could, for $200, get a card recognizing my membership in the Elon Musk fan club.
They make it blatantly fake on purpose to weed out the more intelligent people who are less likely to fall for a scam. The scammers don't want to spend hours reeling someone one in by appearing legitimate, only for the person to disengage at the first sign of a scam. They'd rather just filter those people out right away with something blatantly fake, and the people who are left are the ones susceptible to being scammed.
There are a lot of legitimate reasons someone might be a victim of one of these scams that aren't the result of them being stupid, I don't see any reason to encourage this crap
There's plenty of vulnerable and not terribly IT literate people out there who are ripe for falling for these sorts of things. Never root for the scammers.
