Ohio is basically Florida without beaches or Disneyworld.

[-] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago

When the rivers catch fire do you really want a beach?

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

Technically there are beaches on the Lake Erie shore. Last time I checked, they were not on fire, but probably would have been improved by fire.

[-] lingh0e@sh.itjust.works 4 points 9 months ago

Not technically. There are some very nice beaches on the lake. And while they're not currently burning... they probably SHOULD be on fire because they're some of the most absurdly expensive properties in NE Ohio. Just Google images of Bay Village.

Laughs in Seattleite

Lots of corn.

loooooooooooots of corn......

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

And soybeans. But no mountains.

[-] lingh0e@sh.itjust.works 4 points 9 months ago

Fuck Disney. We got Cedar Point... America's Roller Coast!

[-] wazzupdog@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

After living in both ohio > Florida (except the winter, snow sucks)

[-] MrPoopyButthole@lemm.ee 2 points 9 months ago

Yes, but we like to build little make-pretend NYCs and there aren't nearly as many gators

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 11 points 9 months ago

For starters: Air Force Museum, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, several professional sports teams, gorgeous parks, the best amusement park in the US, and nearly 12 million people.

[-] not_that_guy05@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago

Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland browns, are we really calling them professionals?

[-] Kalkaline@leminal.space 9 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

The Reds and Cavs are breathing a sigh of relief that you forgot about them

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

TIL football is the only sport

[-] yeather@lemmy.ca 2 points 9 months ago

Oh, the Reds and the Cavs are any better?

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world -2 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

What about the team formerly known as the Indians?

Edit: well fuck me for asking, I guess

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

and nearly 12 million people.

who wish they were somewhere else.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

You know how many astronauts are from Ohio? There's such a drive to escape that state that some people feel they need to leave the planet entirely.

In all seriousness, I think that it's a great state to be from.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

I imagine Ohio isn't really that bad. Mostly because I've never been there.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

Completely by chance, I've lived half my life in various parts of Ohio.

It's not hell, but I like other places better overall. There are specific things and people that I miss, but most of those people also left.

It's the Midwest. It's where Americans are bred before they move to the West Coast.

[-] zalgotext@sh.itjust.works 3 points 9 months ago

Ohio is really just like any other Midwest state. The urban areas are on the small but charming, with a surprising amount of stuff to do, but lacking the infrastructure and conveniences of larger metros. The rural areas range from cute little farming communities where everyone is your neighbor, to opiod-ridden backwaters where people struggle to get by.

I honestly don't know why it's such a meme to shit on Ohio when states like West Virginia and Indiana exist.

[-] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

We can add Florida and Texas to that list. The reason is, though, probably because Ohio doesn’t really particularly deserve it like those other states.

Ones a joke, the other is… reality.

[-] Telodzrum@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

the best amusement park in the US

Fuck yes. America's Roller Coast may be the best manmade thing in the country.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 0 points 9 months ago

It was also voted the best amusement park in the world for quite a while.

[-] doingless@lemmy.world 9 points 9 months ago

Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Toledo, Dayton, Youngstown, Lima, Hocking Hills, the edge of Appalachia and lots of corn.

[-] lingh0e@sh.itjust.works 7 points 9 months ago

There's also some Amish folk, Swensons, Melt and the, home of Devo, Halle Berry and Dr. Beverly Crusher.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 0 points 9 months ago

I think it's more soybeans now

[-] Blackout@kbin.social 7 points 9 months ago

Corn and hicks

[-] Kbin_space_program@kbin.social 6 points 9 months ago

Something driving people to strive to leave the planet entirely. Based on NASA astronaut states of origin.

[-] PRUSSIA_x86@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

Lots of chill people, a few assholes, decent weather, and the Big Basket.

[-] ALoafOfBread@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 months ago
