The fact that so many anti communists portray communist as being anti American while retaining the 13 colonial stripes in the updated flag is always funny. It shows how little they know about the people they hate

[–] star_wraith@hexbear.net 43 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The comic is also telling on how so many Americans (boomers at least) think communism is primarily about enforcing atheism and persecuting the religious.

[–] stigsbandit34z@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

Another result of the red scare from which we might not ever recover. Terminal brain poisoning

[–] Pandemanium@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago (5 children)

If communists are not anti American, why do some of them say "death to America"? I'm genuinely curious, I've been trying to understand alternate perspectives but it is confusing reading some of the communist interactions on lemmy. Are they trying to be ironic, or are those just foreign propaganda trolls, or do some communists actually want to see a whole country burn, innocent children and all? Is it an inside joke that I just won't get because I'm a "stupid lib"?

[–] ProfessorOwl_PhD@hexbear.net 27 points 1 year ago

We are anti-america, they're pointing out the irony of using the 13 stripes, referring to the original colonies, in a communist America fantasy.

Also, it's death to America, not death to Americans, i.e the military-industrial complex, exploitation of the global south, and related culture that masquerades as a country. Most people would rather that didn't mean reducing the country to ash, but revolution and dissolution of the current state.

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 18 points 1 year ago

America is the most evil entity the world has ever encountered in the history of time itself

It has done more harm to more people in more ways than any other in the history of the world, and it’s still doing it now, poisoning the future of humanity

Death to America

[–] fuckiforgotmypasswor@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

"Death to America" doesn't refer to killing every person in America, it refers to the death of a nation-state and the ideology it's built upon.

Leftists use this term to advocate for the abolition of things like: fascist police death squads that kill disproportionately lower income and black/brown people indiscriminately and with impunity, the ending of American imperialism that immiserates the entire world while poisoning our planet, the end of neoliberal institutions (which we created) that enforce structural inequality across the entire world (like the IMF), ending nuclear holocaust and weapons proliferation, the evisceration of the bourgeois class that has plundered and profiteered off the natural resources we need to survive, etc; all of which are hallmarks of American structure.

Of course, too - to make an omelet, first you have to crack a few eggs.

[–] Pandemanium@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

Thanks, I do appreciate the explanation. Judging from the other responses, there are some differing opinions about it, so maybe a little of each.

[–] stigsbandit34z@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago

Communists are very anti-America. I think fuckass was just pointing out some irony

[–] BlueMagaChud@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

no, we're definitely anti-amerikkkan, death to amerikkka, they're saying that if we created a new flag it wouldn't include any bourgeois atavisms such as the 13 settler colonial stripes. lol, is this a bit? no communist wants to see "a whole country burn, innocent children and all", that's what amerikkka does, in Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, etc., we want to see whole class of the bourgeoisie burn and their class collaborators to liberate the working class.

[–] Pandemanium@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So if I say Death to Russia, everyone should know that I'm only referring to Putin and his ruling class of cronies, not the Russian people?

[–] SaniFlush@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We don’t like Putin either, but also when centrists say stuff like that they don’t mean it and would gladly watch an entire ethnicity die just so they could feel safer. It doesn’t come off as honest.

[–] Pandemanium@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What is a centrist to you? I don't think I am one. I've never voted for war nor ever wanted any ethnicity to die. But I don't personally have any control over what my government does.

[–] Biggay@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago

Do you want things to change? Does your organizing or actions in politics make conservatives mad and call you a red? then youre not a centrist.

If you dont care about things and the conservatives call you a lib, youre probably a centrist.

If the good guys had won the Cold War

[–] blobjim@hexbear.net 42 points 1 year ago (1 children)

pmc dsa karens can't imagine a flag without 13 kkkolonies white people will literally become communists before they stop being colonizers smh

[–] buckykat@hexbear.net 48 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

The image is clipped from a deranged papist anticommunist tract from the height of the cold war

EDIT: Specifically, this deranged papist anticommunist tract from 1961.

[–] JuneFall@hexbear.net 49 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (4 children)

Lol, a working class family is forced to work to not lose their home, oh that communism!

https://www.theatlantic.com/family/archive/2021/09/cdc-eviction-ban-housing-crisis/619960/

In October 2008, responding to a dramatic increase in such evictions since 2006, Tom Dart, the elected Sheriff of Cook County, Illinois, decided to take a stand on the issue. He criticized mortgage companies for failing to fulfill their obligation to identify renters in foreclosed properties, and announced that he was suspending all foreclosure evictions immediately. The Illinois Banker's Association accused Dart of engaging in "vigilantism".[32]

[–] RedQuestionAsker2@hexbear.net 64 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Love that he says "I own this home" to his wife instead of "we own it" lol

I guess that would be communism

[–] JuneFall@hexbear.net 49 points 1 year ago

Well spotted. The economic dependence of the patriarchal family is well shown.

[–] JuneFall@hexbear.net 41 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

It got a trove of fun quips that hit capitalism more than communism. It is all projection.

Of course most parents in capitalism working have trouble seeing their kids, too. With the added benefit of not having enough money for them to go to school properly. However the comic panel is even more fitting for UK boarding schools:

Most (UK) schools that offer boarding have three distinct models: Full boarding (kids are at the boarding school i.e. Eton the whole year, except for potentially the holidays), Weekly boarding (kids can be at home over the weekend), Flexi-boarding (kids can be at home up to 7 times a week, but for plays and rehearsals and during exam period they stay in school)

[–] JuneFall@hexbear.net 47 points 1 year ago

Hopefully they don't mix up the letters and showed the kids the FBI letter pressuring MLK into suicide.

I agree with the FBI though: Learn all you can about communism!

[–] Chapo_is_Red@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

Among the bourgeois in some places, kids go to boarding schools and only come home to see their family on the weekends. When I worked at a Taiwanese cram school, I knew a lot high school kids like this.

One of my grandmas was sent into foster care for a considerable length of time because her mother just couldn't cope with the child raising and apparently you could just do that in the 40s?

[–] privatized_sun@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

He criticized mortgage companies for failing to fulfill their obligation to identify renters

woke renter idpol is a distraction! /s

[–] janny@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

only good cop I've ever heard of (or one close to doing good).

so like, did he "commit suicide" or get fired?

[–] sovietknuckles@hexbear.net 32 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Proletarian States of America flag

Is that high-res enough for an emoji?

[–] President_Obama@hexbear.net 47 points 1 year ago

Considering it still bears a reference to the original 13 colonies it's probably not something we'd want to have and endorse

[–] ReadFanon@hexbear.net 37 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Even with upscaling it still looks kinda crusty...

Here's a better version of the same image:

Here's a different flag from the same comic book:

I would go to school if this was the curriculum 🥺
