Ireland was one of the testbeds of colonialism, so it cheks out
Yeah they seem pretty hard to define, currently an anomaly in the west, but hopefully they inspire others
They've suffered some from burgerbrain (same and moreso for eastern Europe+east Germany etc) but the Irish are a particularly decent lot IMO. It's the rare (or rather, only) western (west Euro, Anglo) society that seems to promote a certain sense of human decency rather than Hitlerism (both "conservative" and faux-progressive strains) and supremacism/chauvinism as its identity and culture.
They understand what it's like to have your homeland cut in half by the English and filled with members of a religious sect that wants to kill you.
