Yeah the community search on Lemmy leaves a lot to be desired. There's no sort function and I'd like to be able to list them in order of activity. At this point I don't know what to do other than scroll through pages and pages of listings. I'll give those searches a try, very helpful.

I'm done with Reddit. This latest debacle prompted me to look into Reddit's history, had no idea before. What an awful company. Also a community not subject to corporate interest is better for everyone. Anyway, I'm not going back there so if the sub gets closed down, no skin off my nose. Yeah do what you will.

Guess Reddit is going to be taken over by alt-right trolls too.

Haha, that worked for Fox News in the USA.

Lots of “you don’t understand, Reddit is a COMPANY!

That's the problem, corporate interest. We'd all be better served by a community open source platform like the Fediverse, politics aside.

Not joking, I've looked into VMs myself and most are about twice that rate.

Man that -is- cheap, 80 USD a year, what a deal.

Though honestly the more I see about Reddit, the more glad I am to get away from them. I usually don't care much about politics especially when it comes to entertainment and media, but I just watched a video that was rather shocking about the antics that go on there.

Yeah the internet is abuzz with Spez's antics, don't expect that to die down for a while. If they follow through with the deadline it will be even worse.

Still we can add other stuff, maybe drown out the roar a bit. Can always use more communities, I have some good ones now, but I still need a couple I'm lacking.

It's like a mass exodus. I read on one instance how their workload jumped twenty times almost overnight. They'll get it sorted out I'm sure. With more subscribers comes more opportunity for help. Just going to be some lag there.

I'm using fastmail.com as my email provider in the USA. They're a small company based out of Australia with global servers. They pride themselves on privacy and security. Been using them for several years now. They're not the cheapest game in town, but they have an impressive feature set. They actually host a domain and web site for me that's included with my mid-tier account fees. I have zero complaints with them.

Even paid accounts with companies like Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo do not guarantee privacy. Yahoo has been known to scan email content for targeted advertising. Discovering that is what actually motivated me to use a paid service.

Good point, I doubt many other subs have escape plans. So yeah we'd be the first to jump ship. Not a good control group for an experiment.

Doing a reverse lookup on the IP shows a German (.de) registrar and nameserver so I would guess Germany, but it's entirely possible to have registration and server locations in different countries. Maybe our Captain could tell us, but I don't know if that's sensitive information.

I'm new to the fediverse as well. I checked out a few other ones, Kbin, Mastadon, etc. I definitely like Lemmy the best. It's the most "Reddit like." Say what you may about Reddit, but it has some nice features.
