How about an example?

Me, I've noticed "nothing is real" for the last 20 years or so. Thank you, Adobe Systems.

Strictly for historical purposes, Kidnapping by Indians (1899), supposedly the very first Western ever made, ironically in Blackburn, England!

Then there's the films of Broncho Billy, the first Western movie star, and his competition William S. Hart and Tom Mix. I've no particular recommendation for any of these cowboy movies as they're all pretty short and you could see a handful in less than an hour.

Once you get into Gene Autry, John Wayne and Roy Rogers, you're in the sound era (circa 1929). At that point, see anything by the late, great John Ford, pardner!

Can't put my finger on why but I'm doubtful. Looks like the most expensive trailer in the history of cinema.

…the Lego Batman movie is better than Citizen Kane.

Wow. That has got to be the most punk rock thing I've read in a while! My sincerest compliments! 🙇 I'm almost envious I hadn't said it first!

…I have no idea why this one gets so much recognition to this day.

Judging by the list that preceeds your audacious statement, that while I don't necessarily agree with all of your choices, it appears you're a person of a certain sensibility regarding film. With that, I say confidently, don't worry. One day you will understand why Orson Welles' Citizen Kane is considered seminal cinema.

BTW, I thought The Lego Batman Movie was cute. AFI 100 Greatest American Films material, no. Cheers!

I think your timing's off. You might have made big money pitching that idea 10-20 years ago. The Micronauts Movie! Action Jackson: 8" of Dynamite!

I was gonna post a rant railing against this obvious money-grab (shilling, product placement, half the budget is marketing/promotion blah blah blah) when, utilizing my encyclopedic memory of the moving image, I realized this type of "cinema" is nothing new. The only real difference is that now it is no longer an afterthought but an integral part of the plan, an efficient, organized, concerted cross-media marketing ploy. It's not meta, it's nostalgia rationalization; it's not smart, it's calculated.

Brand immersion my ass.

Sorry, not wearing my sarcasm detector at the moment…you do know there are already two MOTU movies…?

You're right. It is kind of a genuine question...kind of. Without having to explain basic social skills to you, Buster Keaton was a comedic and cinematic genius on the same level as the great Charlie Chaplin, whose contributions were unfortunately not given the proper attention while he was still alive and when Hollywood was ready to "make amends" he died shortly after.

Yes, it was quite inconsiderate of him.

In any case, that's why it's not inconceivable to have a dedicated lemmy community for Buster Keaton.
