when I hear golden age, I think gilded age.

and the gilded age was absolutely shitty for people who weren't moderately wealthy. the last time I looked, that describes 90% of the american population.

They're simply bad at showing off the good that they do

pardon me, but I think this is an extremely bad take. because the two things that were glaringly obvious to me over the last 8 years have been

  1. the total whitewash, sanewashing, and normalization of trump in every aspect by major legacy media and
  2. the total ignorance of any democratic accomplishment by that same media.

it is extremely hard for a party to proclaim their good things when the people who have the most exposure to the public outright refuse to tell people about it. pundits have complained bitterly about the democrats communication problem on network tv but never seem to question those same tv networks why they won't talk about what the democrats just did. and when democrats appear on those same shows and bring up their accomplishments themselves the hosts are completely disinterested in the topic and don't allow the democrat to expound further on their accomplishments.

this country has a severely unbalanced media coverage and bias issue that no one wants to talk about because it exposes how much the media has been bought and bullied by the right wing. for at least 40 years it's just accepted that what a republican says goes unchallenged while the democrat gets no positive press whatsoever. acceptance of the false "liberal media" trope is baked in and simply taken as fact. it's no wonder why the news is distrusted and no one pays it any attention anymore.

I've been saying this for years.

why is it that there's no liberal media distribution network? take a look at free streaming services for example like plutotv. last I checked there were 4 or 5 right wing free propaganda networks right there available to anyone with a stream stick, smart tv, or internet browser. know how many I saw for left wing viewers? one. and it's production quality is night and day to the other side, as in the right wing nets were the day and the left wing one was somewhere above a good cable access show.

there are many liberal minded people who go on these "friendly" cable news shows and complain endlessly about fox, and outlets like the daily wire, oan, newsmax, and content creators on the various streaming outlets. but you know what my major fucking issue is with those people?

THEY ALL HAVE THE MONEY TO COUNTER ALL OF THIS. MANY OF THESE PEOPLE ALSO HAVE THE MEDIA EXPERIENCE TO MAKE IT WORK.

I'm sorry, but I am sick and goddamned fucking tired of a bunch of liberal elitists who go around removed to everyone who will listen about how bad democratic messaging and talking point distribution is and refuse to lift a fucking finger to do something about it. in my mind they are as culpable of the right wing disinformation era we're in right now just as much as those who spread it. until they themselves do something about it they are dead in me. get out and do some work yourself or just shut the fuck up since that's essentially what you have been doing.

and don't talk to me about air america radio. the idea was sound but executed extremely poorly if you call that execution at all. at the start of the network, run by not-radio people, it had more writers on staff than they did on air talent, including the people who read the news at the top and bottom of the hour. it was a venture doomed to failure because the people who owned and ran it had no idea what they were doing.

so because the people who know how to or know the people who know how to get the message out in a 24/7 manner chose to literally not put their money where their mouths were, we will descend into right wing religious race based fascism. but don't worry. they'll still advocate for us on that famously well known liberal media from the comfort of their homes in their gated communities.

clearly she's setting herself up to be the antimaga standard bearer. her problem is that even without trump, there's not enough rational republicans left in the party. what the party is going to do now is continue to purify itself to be more maga. if it's not going to be trump again (and remember, there's no law or constitutional restriction that says felons, incarcerated or not can't run for or be elected president), the next charismatic magat is going to be the next nominee. because the most rabid, reactionary, and active member of that party are all magats.

oh, so you are admitting that you have no idea of the circumstances that you are commenting about?

the greatest democracy where when the candidate either knows the law and doesn't comply with them because of arrogance or doesn't know the law because her party and her candidacy were and always have been absolute unserious jokes, it's not the candidate's fault or the party's fault. it's the democrats' fault because to you people it's always the democrats' fault even though the democrats had zero involvement in stein fucking over her own campaign.

or do what the democrats did and officially nominate your candidates outside of the convention.

he gave them to people that the fbi said shouldn't have them. scotus said he could do anything officially he wants. so why would he bother with a screening process? he's going to give them to whoever he wants to anyway.

I honestly didn't think it was the meat. the only unique topping on that sandwich is the onions which aren't used for anything else as an uncooked item. if it was the meat I think more people would have gotten sick.

let's hope so.

somebody used my email address to order stuff from temu. the only reason I know about this is because paypal sent me a notice saying they were tracking my order.

fortunately for me, my paypal information (other than my email) wasn't breached. after I notified paypal they told me they would monitor my account for suspicious activity and they hadn't noticed any. and as it turns out neither was my email. I've got 2fa turned on and never got a suspicious notification.

if it's that easy to use any email to order stuff these companies are showing they have no security and need to go.

the profanity flies frequently at my place of work. we do give writeups if our employees are saying that in front of customers.

except for me, because I don't curse (out loud). in fact if I start doing it everyone around me would actually be worried if I was okay.

this whole investigation was a textbook definition of a witch hunt. and now it's come to light that the entire basis of investigating hunter was from an fbi informant with close ties to russian counterintel. the same people who talked with rudy and the laptop.

hunter has a real good shot at winning a defamation suit against smirnov and rudy imo but I'm not a law talkin guy.

... in other words gaetz and company are admitting (knowingly or unwittingly) that

  • trump is an insurrecionist
  • trump is very likely to lose at the supreme court in his colorado 14th amendment appeal hearing
  • that the plain text reading of section 3 of the 14th amendment says congress can waive the condition (but only if 2/3 of both houses agree to waive the condition)

the funny thing is how when this passes the house, it won't be anywhere close to the 290 they need but they'll try to act as though it's binding. and they're doing this before the hearing, where the plaintiff's attorney and/or the colorado solicitor general can point out that since the house and senate have initiated resolutions declaring trump not an insurrectionist that the colorado supreme court ruling should hold since the congress has started the process of returning trump to the ballot.

and if I a non law talkin guy could see this and figure it out then so should the supreme court. especially if someone points that out to them.

I've actually got 2 questions, one about l.w and one about lemmy in general.

  1. I signed up yesterday and got an email to confirm my address but it's not working. I've used the user I created, my email, and the user that was in my email and it's not working. is it me or is it the server here at issue?

  2. I've also got a mastodon account. how do I create a post on any sub straight from there and not through a lemmy instance?
