With beehaw de-federating from lemmy.world (and seemingly most of the fediverse and this point), myself and many others no longer have a way to even lurk beehaw. Coupled with the fact that beehaw seems to gate-keep their registration, I'm wondering if there's a way to at least lurk their instance without needing an account. I know it can be done via their website. Is that something Jerboa supports as well?

Could we use this as an opportunity to change the name to something that doesn't contain hate speech?

Just another nail in the coffin. Time to delete this app

One thing that definitely worries me with federation in general is the barrier to entry to hosting an instance is low, by design. On one hand this is great, but on the other hand it means just about anyone can spin up an instance and collect usernames, passwords, emails, etc. from anyone who signs up

I know this is obviously no better than an single giant corporation who can do that. But it's interesting to think about.

I'm definitely not suggesting kbin.social is doing this by the way. Your post just spurred this thought for me

hey it's me ur CEO

Because "master race" is a broadly known term, compared to a niche video game review. As I stated I am out of the loop having not seen this Witcher 1 review.

I guess I'm out of the loop. When I hear master race I think of white supremacy, not a Witcher 1 review

I'm having trouble subscribing to communities and I hope y'all can help. Apologies if this is a very basic question

I'm using the Jerboa app. When I find a community I click the "Subscribe" button. What's weird is from there the button changed to "Pending" as opposed to "Subscribed". What's worse is the community does not show up in my subscribed communities in the Jerboa app, meaning I can't quickly navigate back to the community. Essentially seems like I'm still not subscribed at all.

I'm very new to federated social media. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

I tried to make an account on lemmy.ml and it looks like their servers are (understandably) overloaded

I ended up choosing lemmy.world instead

My understanding is I'm not missing out on anything by chosing a less-popular instance. Did I get that right?
