I think he's referring to how Reddit used to operate on Tencent funding.
Tencent is partially owned by the Chinese government.

instead hunt for FLAC format. it’s lossless.

Any recommendations on where to do this?

I think that'd be best, basically an entire porn federation completely isolated, we can name it horny jail!

software is always made for a purpose and the purpose can be indeed (and is) very often linked to political or social cause

Its not though, typically software exists to serve a basic function at its core, and it could be used or contributed to by anyone for any number of things.

Was referring more to people trying to politicize software and push them into political movements they're unrelated to. Open software is at is core free and as such anyone with any political leaning could use it or contribute to it and no one would know, and no one should care.

I think its the "never raise this subject here again" Comes off as a bit aggressive.

I actually would really like something like new Reddit, Lemmy is far too horizontally dense despite wasting tons of space on both sides. I can't actually tell which comment is the top most either.

Generally its just difficult to discern what exactly I'm seeing.

If I don't find something soon-ish I'll probably get deep into making my own restyle script.

One great thing about about software is you don't have to agree with or care about what the creators thoughts and beliefs are, software is at the end of the day just software.

Doesn't get any less political than that.

Yeah, I've been a software engineer for years and I too had to have a sit down to 'figure it all out' with mastodon. Though Lemmy seems far more my style, so hopefully this gets some power behind it.

I didn't make friends but there were regulars I'd see around, its the smaller communities that feel the best.

I think separate instances are actually perfect for porn, there can be an entire instance dedicated entirely to people's specific tastes - making that their problem and not ours.

Here's hoping the place will polish up a little more over time.
