Ok, well if you're going to go to bat for a troll who baits serious discussion with takes like "biological complexity is nothing more than opinion," who is literally saying that those who point out the fact that biology is complex are like Zionists calling their settler-colonial apartheid state complex, and use my account age to somehow equivocate us, then why don't you also compare what comes up for our usernames in the modlog? Then, I don't know, maybe consider reporting yourself for abuse of the report function? shrug-outta-hecks

[-] MaeBorowski@hexbear.net 23 points 5 days ago

So your entire argument comes down to "there's no such thing as consensus reality, it's all just like your opinion, man!" Got it, you are deeply unserious.

But YOU could be wrong about the degree of "complexity" of the human body as well.

lol. Ok, troll.

But that doesn't invalidate anything that I said in my post.

But that's just your opinion. MY opinion is that it literally did invalidate everything you said in your post, and opinion is the only thing that is real or matters, remember.

[-] MaeBorowski@hexbear.net 32 points 5 days ago

Yeah but this is what people say to dismiss socialism/communism. "It's too complex, human nature, etc. etc."

Sure but lots of things are "hard." Or "complex." That's what zionists say about Israel ("oh it's soooo complex!") when we know for damn sure it's not.

You keep trotting this out but it's a ridiculous (and frustrating) comparison. People (libs/chuds) will often say "starving millions of people is bad" to "dismiss communism." It doesn't mean that the opposite is true and that "starving millions of people" is actually good. Those who say that it is bad are right. It is bad. It just doesn't apply to the Soviet Union or communism but it does apply to other circumstances (like Churchill’s evil, racist, and fully intentional genocidal policies causing four million people to starve to death during the Bengal "famine" in 1943). Just because people use a truism to sometimes criticize a thing unjustifiably, that doesn't mean the truism is false. Some things actually are inherent human nature, it's just that market competition isn't one of them. Some things actually are complex, it's just that the Isntreal-Palestine conflict isn't one of them. Etc.

I can't believe I'm reading this here and I'm not convinced you aren't a troll. Modern medicine is a fucking miracle of human accomplishment, and while it's not cured us of death or the human condition, and despite how much it is disgustingly hampered and distorted by capitalism, we are profoundly lucky to live in an age where so many of the conditions that have caused untold human suffering and death for the entire existence of our species are now nothing more than a minor inconvenience. I for one, without question, would not be alive without "modern medicine."

Yes, just like Beaver said, it shows you that the enemies of the Democrats are not the Republicans, their supporters, or right-wing ideologues in general. The enemies of Democrats are anyone who is sincerely progressive and anyone who cares about the victims of genocide.

reignites lingering doubts held in the minds of people sympathetic to the Palestinian cause.

Reignite lingering doubts?? Anyone sympathetic to the Palestinian cause should be screaming from the rooftops that these people are committing heinous atrocities, literal genocide. They shouldn't be doubted, they should be [redacted].

Here's the transcript. (Edit for clarity: link is an archive of NYT's transcript of the speech, not Hasan talking about it.)

As vice president, I have confronted threats to our security, negotiated with foreign leaders, strengthened our alliances and engaged with our brave troops overseas. As commander in chief, I will ensure America always has the strongest, most lethal fighting force in the world.

Ever since the API crackdown thing especially, they've going through and quietly banning all kinds of subs that might scare advertisers, or that they just don't like for political reasons. The venn diagram for those two things has a lot of overlap of course. They've been killing off small leftist subs (as we know, they killed off the bigger ones a while back now), piracy subs, porn subs (no tears shed from me about that, though I expect it will probably end up hurting sex workers too like that sort of thing always does) etc. I think r/piracy is so big that there would be enough backlash which makes reddit reluctant to axe it, but I expect it will be on the block too before much longer. But for example, r/fmovies was banned last month.

Anyway, I expect the ban on r/TransDIY is that part of the venn diagram that it scares advertisers and is something reddit is politically in opposition to. Like What_Religion_R_They said, the reasoning and justification they'll use is bullshit about it being potentially harmful to minors.

@dead@hexbear.net posted this in the other thread about this earlier today, if anyone is interested in seeing more examples of how vile this person was, and why they deserve a crab-party and rip-bozo

I went through his tweets from the last year.

This person has a long and sordid history as a misogynist piece of shit. They were fairly active on Lemmygrad who eventually banned them, but it was unfortunately just temporary. But you'll see the incel/MRA kind of trash they believe if you look at their lemmygrad modlog history.

Is there a reason we can't see ml c/technology from hexbear?

I don't think there is. From what I've been able to tell, it's a bug and is relatively common. There are certain comms and even certain users that are plain invisible, as it seems as if they do not federate correctly (despite the rest of the instance being federated). I have talked about it before, and c/technology isn't the only one like that. We also can't see the lemmy.ml privacy comm from hexbear. And they can't properly see our literature comm. I'm sure there are others, in fact I know there are I just can't remember which atm.

Are we able to defederate from specific communities?

I think we actually are able to do that now? But that's not what this is. This was an issue long before that was a feature. And like I said, it happens with certain users too and there is nothing in the modlog of either instance about them being banned or something. They simply don't exist if you're looking for them from the other instance. purge-2

That is really cool, but let's not pretend that DSA as an org isn't often times extremely lib and that any actual communist party should never find themselves to their right. Did anything ever happen to those DSA caucus leaders who snubbed the president of Cuba and went to meet with the Gusano opposition instead?

American foreign policy affects the entire world.

And you think Biden's foreign policy hasn't been a much bigger catastrophe for the world than Trump's was? How can you post so good on economics and MMT and China and then post this kind of liberal dredge? madeline-shock

I'm certainly not getting any wiser going through these conversations on repeat and I don't think anyone else is, either.

I bet a lot of lurkers are, including me.

I wish more of our team would disengage.

I wish for the opposite. It's always funny to watch these people fume and sputter when they are faced with dissent instead of the clapping seals they're used to. And I do learn a lot from what hexbears and lemmygradians say even when they're talking to someone unwilling to be educated.
