Oh well. I guess this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise considering the show’s disinterest in the source material and Paramount’s precarious position these days.

Good riddance. Extremely Cocky show runners who felt their TV show was BIGGER than the 2 decades worth of Halo history.

Bit of a shame as I thought the 2nd season redeemed itself. Fall of Reach was well done.

I disagree but I understand your perspective. To me the Fall of Reach was botched horribly. But I'm a lifelong Halo fan so that may not be applicable to most.

I’m also a life long halo fan. However I came to terms a long time ago with the fact that the media I love will change over time.

Would I prefer that Star Wars had stuck to Admiral Thrawn being the big bad post Return of the Jedi? Absolutely, but I didn’t throw a fit when the sequel trilogy retconned all the books I read in the 90s. I was more happy to get new media after so long and despite the movies being awful we at least got some decent side projects like Andor and Rogue One.

Edit: Sorry, to be clear, I’m not saying you are throwing a fit, I just remember all the toxic wailing and nashing of teeth on the Halo subreddit. The first season was bad television regardless of whether it was Halo or not.

Second season was a lot better and seemed to get its footing, i was hoping for a third season.

Paramount lost a lot of shows with potential. I mostly liked Halo, and I loved Lower Decks. Better general quality to what's been coming out of Apple TV.

A shame, really.

It was such an unfortunate decision to cancel Lower Decks. I really liked that show.

Halo tried to do its own thing and had mixed results at best, but I did think it was on a much firmer footing in season two than season one. Another season and they might have righted the ship completely.

Look at just about any science fiction show: aside from some notable exceptions, the first season or two are generally terrible until they get their feet under them.

Yeah. I should have clarified that I'm not a Halo fan. I once bought an Xbox just to play Halo; I maybe played two in the series? And Gears of War, which was fun. But Halo was for me only ever a fun game; I never consumed any of the other media, and I switched pretty quickly to PlayStation and never looked back.

I hated the show a little for what they did do, as it was so divergent from the couple of early games I'd played, and I really disliked where they took Master Chief as a character in the universe. But I wasn't so invested that I couldn't enjoy the FX and the story. And I think that's key: for a person with only mild exposure to Halo, it was a good show. I can see how it would infuriate the True Fans, though. And I get that.

To paraphrase[*] Captain Tightpants, "May have been in the losing side; still not convinced it was the wrong one." I'd have liked more seasons.

[*] I meant to paraphrase, but ended up quoting. Oh well

The thumbnail’s funny because it looks like Chief is just hearing the news

Wait what there's a Halo show?

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 25 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Just in name only. The show creator and producers proudly touted that they never played the game or followed any lore to influence their story. Like being absolutely alien to a thing is somehow a positive.

The show was largely it's own thing and did it's best to recycle the idea and names of things that exist in the universe into some other backstory and lore. It's awful and 2 seasons is one too many.

Like they dropped all the characters and locations into a pot and stirred it. Almost nonsensical.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

I can't believe they got a second season

[–] buh@hexbear.net 5 points 4 months ago

can't even destroy the flood because of woke cancel culture 😒

[–] xia@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 4 months ago

At least they got one scene on the halo, otherwise it would have been a haloless halo.
