Hello new Lemmy friends!

Word on the street tells us our community is regularly making it the all page. While this is very cool news to hear, we can see how the sudden emergence of our posts in your feed might feel jarring and probably raises some questions. And also how, without knowing the backstory, our community might appear less than virtuous, so here’s a very brief introduction which hopefully will clear a few things up.

The woman we’re discussing is a body positive influencer and media personality who has gained fame and wealth by lying, manipulating, exploiting her children for content, plagiarizing BIPOC creators and blaming her BIPOC content editor for it (thereby ruining her career), among other things. Her fraudulent behavior is no different (I’d argue worse) from the likes of Jay Shetty (google him if you don’t know who he is or what he did). She’s the latest in a long line of grifting influencers who are abusing their power, taking advantage of their position and exploiting their followers. The difference is that she’s Canadian. Our laws around social media and advertising aren’t as clear (and where they are she’s disobeyed them), add to that, our mainstream media has protected her from those who’ve tried to expose her grift and silenced/intimidated anyone who’s tried to speak out.

Our Reddit sub was taken down due to reports of copyright infringement, which is unfounded and categorically untrue as no one ever tried to steal her work and pass it off as their own. The mods have made an appeal. While at first glance it may seem like we’re just “shitting on her” the sub has been more devoted to investigation and posting proof of her lies than just bitching for the sake of bitching. The reality is that she’s hurt, manipulated and let down a lot of people. She stole intellectual property and employment, caused mental distress and has repeatedly told lies to boost engagement and profit off her audience, so people are understandably upset that their voices are being silenced.

We’re grateful to have been welcomed so kindly by so many of you, and to those sticking around to watch the drama unfold, we’re glad to have you!

Her most recent birthday (39), and she was terrified to turn around and have cameras see her real body. “There’s so many cameras, what do I do?!” She had no problem posting her edited pics online. Her chin/jawline here is also not what she portrays online. I think she's since had jawline fillers (even though she denies any fillers, including lip) anyway. The point is she's a con artist. She has people banned from Reddit for posting this. Even though it was all on public IG posts, she’s wild. Body confidence queen 😵‍💫

She shouldn’t be ashamed of her real body. She is beautiful. We are all beautiful. I’m actually so sad that a candid shot of her on someone else’s FB triggered ED for her years back. I’m upset that ED launched an obsession with seeing herself everywhere. I’m upset that my ED was triggered by following her way back after seeing her on a magazine in a doctors office (right I had just had a baby too). I’m upset that I continued to follow her as she got physically bigger (and looked healthier) but she still looked less “flawed” in all her images and I held myself to that standard. Luckily I am a very community involved person who focused on other actually important things and it stopped consuming me - but I’m the depths of ED it’s very hard to see clearly , and you feel like influencers are your “friends” cheering you on- they aren’t. They profit from self-doubt and self-loathing.

Thank you for sharing your story and I’m so glad you found a good community

Thank YOU! Human rights organizations and protest/social justice communities are focused on actually uplifting others as we navigate difficult situations to help those affected by modern slavery, genocide and more. Looking to those role models helps a lot.

Finding something worthwhile where you can help your community and working to make change happen for others really makes you realize all the time people spend on the superficial isn’t time well-spent

I love that you’re so passionate about this and we can all learn from you!

Thank you for sharing. I find this relatable. ❤️ She has triggered mine a lot as well, but fortunately for me too I have been able to get to a place where it isn't all consuming anymore. But still have my moments

[–] No_really_why@lemmy.ca 19 points 5 months ago

Wow!!! She is folded over trying to hide her body. That’s crazy.

[–] crownofgold6@lemmy.ca 19 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Of all her videos and moments I truly believe this was her most embarrassing. For someone who films themselves every single day, I’ve never seen her so uncomfortable with cameras being on her. You would think that moment would’ve made her realize that maybe she should stop filtering so she isn’t so uncomfortable and terrified for her real self being filmed but nope she’s only gotten worse tbh.

[–] Rarepotato@lemmy.ca 12 points 5 months ago (2 children)

She also had people banned from Reddit with false reports of sharing nudity with this same content

[–] ladybonerforjustice@lemmy.ca 10 points 5 months ago

It makes it harder to feel sorry for her doesn’t it? I used to have quite a bit of empathy for her until she tried to bully Janette with that cease and desist letter. She’s a bitch.

[–] crownofgold6@lemmy.ca 9 points 5 months ago

Oh yea i remember that, she’s the worst. Such a villain.

[–] after_act@lemmy.ca 7 points 5 months ago

She looks sooo uncomfortable here! I never saw this video before and honestly kinda shocked how awkward she is.

[–] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 18 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Rare, this is another perfect video and audio mashup. You can feel her discomfort in that birthday video when she can’t control the images.

Thank you. I do my best to document her actions and cultivate a conversation like this thread where people discuss how her deceptive, manipulative pattern of behavior harms or has harmed them. It’s important. I appreciate people being willing to share.

[–] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 12 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It always stuns me that she’s so shameless. Does she believe her lies and why has no one mentioned, in an interview, that she’s the one who’s talking about bodies and highlighting ‘flaws’ more than anyone else?

[–] Rarepotato@lemmy.ca 8 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

She is the queen of secondary gains from her bullshit and lies

[–] Glowpop@lemmy.ca 14 points 5 months ago

She looks so ridiculous acting that way while wearing an outfit from the "flashy and everyone will be looking at you" category.

[–] Blueeyes84@lemmy.ca 13 points 5 months ago

So she actually had a real opportunity of proving her bopo stance, slap that fupa, shake her stomach and declare self love but she was ashamed??? Shocker 😂

[–] Amb2023@lemmy.ca 12 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Such a con. These are also not the little tiny skinny legs she has been showing everyone online. That video is so embarrassing for her. Everyone was getting annoyed with her. Always has to make a big spectacle!

[–] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 11 points 5 months ago

She has her regular legs on in this one

[–] crownofgold6@lemmy.ca 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

LOVE how she made sure that little “skinnylicious” menu was showing, wouldn’t want to be seen eating from the normal menu 🙄

[–] Bonjourmadame@lemmy.ca 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

She's definitely not skinnyliscous. And isn't cheesecake dairy and gluten?

[–] crownofgold6@lemmy.ca 5 points 5 months ago

That’s prob why she’s making sure the skinny menu is showing so she can keep up her gluten and dairy free act (not sure if the skinny menu has gluten and dairy free)

[–] Bitchwhiskers@lemmy.ca 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I hate those jeans soooooo much

[–] Rarepotato@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

Same. They're so dumb and that wash is awful.
