  • Tankies are real

  • Tankies are real, but only in the West

  • Tankies are a Western Fad. Nobody in AES states think this way

  • Tankies aren't real, Leftists made them up to scare you

  • Only a Chinese bot would know what a Tankie is

[–] axont@hexbear.net 15 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The only tankies in the whole world are Xi Jingping himself and a scattered bunch of white teenagers from Ohio

[–] DoghouseCharlie@hexbear.net 56 points 1 year ago (2 children)

The principle Skinner meme but it's "Am I so out of touch? No. It's millions of not-white people that are fascist."

[–] Fuckass@hexbear.net 45 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And you will be executed for thinking otherwise

[–] quarrk@hexbear.net 31 points 1 year ago

Once for each thought!

Oh, this brings me back to the Falklands/Malvinas struggle session.

Good times.

I love all these dorks

It's reminding me of my debate classes back in high school and the one time I got in trouble for telling a guy "Shut up nerd face" for spouting Latin phrases at me when I was trying to argue in favor of enhanced safety restrictions on cars

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 45 points 1 year ago

I won all my high school debates by cross training in boxing. Appeal to the stick early, appeal to the stick often.

That's an Entenmannalogical Fallacy smuglord

[–] Aryuproudomenowdaddy@hexbear.net 44 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ah shit you've been logical fallacied. Time to pack it up.

[–] Yurt_Owl@hexbear.net 36 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Threats of execution? Damn sounds pretty tankie to me

[–] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

No, you're only a tankie when you're against violence. Being against violence let's other people be violent and you have to murder all of them and genocide their country too. Can't let the citizens live, they keep going on about their day while (insert bad person) continues to do what he does! That's tantamount to TREASON to this democracy which is in peril! Every person in bad country should pick up the nearest blunt object and march on (bad leader). No, I will not go join the foreign legions or help the fight I care about in any meaningful way, tankie. Asking me to put my money where my mouth is is just russian propaganda and whataboutism.

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Are we defederated from lemm.ee now? Aww I liked dunking on their libs

[–] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

It's half of why I stopped lurking!

[–] booty@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

I think we're still federated. lemm.ee/instances shows hexbear, hexbear.net/instances shows lemm.ee

[–] lckdscl@whiskers.bim.boats 32 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Ah, the racist definition of "tankie". It seems like racists have managed to get their hands on a dictionary.

Our friend here proclaimed they are the single source of truth on the currently-accepted definition of "tankie". Well, why don't they source us etymological discussions on the term "tankie" in contemporary English studies and journals? Oh, wait shit they couldn't find any.

Also, they committed some kind of etymological fallacy anyway by calling socialists fascists. The cognitive dissonance is real.

[–] Fuckass@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Actually, the “etymological fallacy” part was replying to something else in my post (they say revolutions aren’t authoritarian if you’re anarchist)

[–] lckdscl@whiskers.bim.boats 20 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

They still bent words according to their own meanings anyway. I find it funny these libs are actually putting in some serious semantic deliberation on "tankie". It used to just be a quick way to go LALALA!! go away I can't hear u!! TANKIES!!

[–] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago

Also, they committed some kind of etymological fallacy anyway by calling socialists fascists.

No, they were just equivocating, no etymology involved

[–] Gucci_Minh@hexbear.net 32 points 1 year ago

We need to redistribute lemmygrad's debate pervert emoji to hexbear

[–] chickentendrils@hexbear.net 30 points 1 year ago (1 children)

These libs should trying talking to people from around the world. It could be so much better than it is, but Omegle works for this.

The hatred from people in the global south for their previous colonial occupiers is near universal, especially for the Fr*nch in North/West Africa. A worryingly large minority I've run into online & abroad are less skeptical of the US than I'd have hoped, as they're eager to ditch the Europeans and their interference and bullshit. Outside of the Americas, basically everywhere but India, people are pretty hopeful about Chinese investments. Even about things like "port takeovers", people on the ground seem aware that it's preferable to have PRC filling certain infrastructure roles rather than local collaborators giving US businesses covert control.

[–] axont@hexbear.net 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I wish there was something like Omegle that wasn't full of A) children and B) creeps preying on children. It would be neat to randomly find someone normal in the world to chat with for a while.

[–] axont@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Damn I wonder why these libs think non-white countries keep doing socialism wrong

thinkin-lenin

[–] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 16 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

And why do they have a slur for other westerns who think non-white people aren't doing socialism wrong thinkin-lenin

[–] AntiOutsideAktion@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago

It's honestly really fun seeing all the wild takes that can be assembled from different combinations of bits of truth

[–] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

top-cop excuse me, but you just committed a logical fallacy, therefore your ideology is not worth me acknowledging

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

That's their euphoric sword. very-intelligent

Their euphoric shield is "can you kindly point out where I committed (logical fallacies of their own, usually false equivalencies for some reason)? I won't accept any evidence that has a 'narrative' or a 'bias' that I arbitrarily define. I'll wait." very-intelligent

[–] NewLeaf@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I'd like some opinions from hexbear on how they would engage this type of user. If they would at all? Is it worth it, not to correct the chud, but to possibly convert a drive by user of a given platform?

The real answer is probably logout

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I've started to take the time to go thru my argument with them when they complain that I'm rude or that ppb is used as a response to them. I'll go thru the whole thing and highlight how I wasn't "immediately hostile" and how they themselves have been antagonistic, I then take them comment-by-comment to show how they escalate the situation each time, and the "logical fallacies" they perform each time.
So far the results have been either

  • them leaving the discussion, just stopping to engage. Typically some other user then comes in and complains about hostility all over again.
  • them denying the facts of the matter, quotes and all, and then complaining about me "putting words in their mouth" and then continuing to be shitheels.
  • Them insulting me and calling me delusional or a bot.

I don't do it for them though, since I know they suck. I do it so they can't link the thread without having to link to me posting receipts. I do it so all the lurkers are challenged on the narrative of hexbears being "hostile and rude for no reason" and I do it in the vain hope they might someday look back and realise how shitty they were. I know I've done that last thing myself.

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 7 points 1 year ago

Dunking them is more effective than logout because logout typically just gives them more room to spread their ideological poison. I'm not saying that everyone should remain very online at all times, but calling out the bullshit and pointing out what clowns they are without humoring their debatebro addictions works pretty well.

Even if it's grotesque and weird, "post hog" and even the pigpoopballs thing seem to drive them off after a while.

[–] FuckYourselfEndless@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They're dumbass coppertops, so engage them for your own enjoyment and fulfillment if you do. They're not going to tell you anything interesting or change their minds. Have fun with it.

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

When I engage with them it's for the sake of other people watching 99% of the time; very few debatebros ever actually change their minds because of a comment chain.

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Excuse me, but your rebuttal is an ad logicam. Please re-write it; I'll wait.

Serious question my fellow hexbears, what is your favorite fallacy? Mine is poisoning the well, a type of ad hominem. An example would be something like, "well, of course you would quote that prolific fascist and genocide apologist..."

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 20 points 1 year ago

Nothing any of these people say will ever matter. There's no substance to anything they say and they're not attempting to communicate, just bolster their ego.

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago

You just committed an argumentum ad kalishnikov, so you aren't allowed to seize power unless there's an election! Checkmate!

Lemm.ee isn't defederated from hexbear.
Unless you meant something else I'm not seeing.

>Hey Hexbears, lets try and bring in not just redditors, but users who were such big redditors they use need a special 3rd party app to let them consume reddit propaganda more efficiently.

>WAAAAH, the people who need 500 API calls worth of reddit each minute aren't le good faith heckin' trans communists. why can't we le pipeline the new lemmitors?
