That's their euphoric sword. very-intelligent

Their euphoric shield is "can you kindly point out where I committed (logical fallacies of their own, usually false equivalencies for some reason)? I won't accept any evidence that has a 'narrative' or a 'bias' that I arbitrarily define. I'll wait." very-intelligent

I'd like some opinions from hexbear on how they would engage this type of user. If they would at all? Is it worth it, not to correct the chud, but to possibly convert a drive by user of a given platform?

The real answer is probably logout

Dunking them is more effective than logout because logout typically just gives them more room to spread their ideological poison. I'm not saying that everyone should remain very online at all times, but calling out the bullshit and pointing out what clowns they are without humoring their debatebro addictions works pretty well.

Even if it's grotesque and weird, "post hog" and even the pigpoopballs thing seem to drive them off after a while.

I've started to take the time to go thru my argument with them when they complain that I'm rude or that ppb is used as a response to them. I'll go thru the whole thing and highlight how I wasn't "immediately hostile" and how they themselves have been antagonistic, I then take them comment-by-comment to show how they escalate the situation each time, and the "logical fallacies" they perform each time.
So far the results have been either

  • them leaving the discussion, just stopping to engage. Typically some other user then comes in and complains about hostility all over again.
  • them denying the facts of the matter, quotes and all, and then complaining about me "putting words in their mouth" and then continuing to be shitheels.
  • Them insulting me and calling me delusional or a bot.

I don't do it for them though, since I know they suck. I do it so they can't link the thread without having to link to me posting receipts. I do it so all the lurkers are challenged on the narrative of hexbears being "hostile and rude for no reason" and I do it in the vain hope they might someday look back and realise how shitty they were. I know I've done that last thing myself.

They're dumbass coppertops, so engage them for your own enjoyment and fulfillment if you do. They're not going to tell you anything interesting or change their minds. Have fun with it.

When I engage with them it's for the sake of other people watching 99% of the time; very few debatebros ever actually change their minds because of a comment chain.

Excuse me, but your rebuttal is an ad logicam. Please re-write it; I'll wait.

Serious question my fellow hexbears, what is your favorite fallacy? Mine is poisoning the well, a type of ad hominem. An example would be something like, "well, of course you would quote that prolific fascist and genocide apologist..."
