Lemmy is catching up with 4chan circa 2006 in terms of "wtf is going on".

[–] DreamerOfImprobableDreams@kbin.social 17 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

Hopefully with less Nazis this time...

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.de 13 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

Actual, genuine nazis were few and far in between back then. A more innocent time.

[–] Paralda@programming.dev 5 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The problem is that when you have a community of people pretending to be nazis, it makes it a lot easier for real nazis to show up.

I mean, they literally coordinate shit like that on StormFront and whatnot

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.de 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

That's why we're not anonymous here and not pretending to be nazis. Also, the actual bad shit did take a while to take over and push out the anarcho-creativity of the mid to late 2000s. In 2010, My Little Pony Friendship is Magic started and became the phenomenon it was, not least because of 4chan - that should tell you how many very decent people were still there. I genuinely think it's sad that people only remember the later years of 4chan and I think adopting a bit of its original spirit could be good for Lemmy.

[–] Kutsuya@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

All I remember about 4chan is being doxxed and have my grans house terrorized... I would be happy to see 4chan dissappear.

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.de 1 points 2 years ago (5 children)

That's definitely a part of it that we don't want to bring back.

[–] Kutsuya@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Damn internet is being spotty, sorry for spam

[–] Kutsuya@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It still feels like half of the users are like this though. Especially if you scroll through the comments and see all the racist and nazi things

[–] Lumidaub@feddit.de 1 points 2 years ago

Well yes, now. I'm talking specifically about what it was like almost 20 years ago and taking the best parts of that anarcho spirit that co-created the internet.

[–] metaStatic@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

lulz was the only rule.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

Fewer Nazis.

[–] spicy_biscuits@kbin.social 19 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I was on here only yesterday, I come back, it's just a bunch of beans lol

[–] yads@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 years ago

I was here 30 minutes ago and I have no idea what's going on 😂

[–] kbity@kbin.social 8 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Kbin user here, why are beans everywhere?

[–] viciousme@feddit.nl 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

it always has bean

edit: typo

[–] Calcharger@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Kbean user here, why are bins everywhere?

[–] metaStatic@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

I think someone failed the challenge

[–] explodedimp@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (2 children)

It's kind of stupid and seems to have been taken too far. It's not even funny. I hope lemmy doesn't become like reddit with the dumb overused memes.

[–] LA71@lemmy.one 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] explodedimp@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I'm hoping not

[–] metaStatic@kbin.social 4 points 2 years ago (2 children)
[–] Limitless_screaming@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

Have a look around.

[–] explodedimp@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Not really. That was pretty much just a reddit thing. The first 15 comments would always be the same stupid joke or tired meme over and over again

[–] root@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

I have no memory of this place

[–] WrenofDelpan@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Meme culture moves quick on lemmy, I have no idea where the beans came from or what it means, and I think it'll be replaced with something else by the time I figure it out

[–] RickRussell_CA@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

I mean, the no poop guy had to break his fast somehow.

[–] CodaChroma@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Stealing this to put on lotr_memes lol

[–] OFTHEHILLPEOPLE@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Everyone loves Magical Trevor.

[–] Zachdelarocha443a@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Yep. Were speedrunning through all the old trends. It's great.

[–] Kentendo@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

I don't think Lemmy has to be full of ancient meme images

[–] muffin@reddthat.com 2 points 2 years ago
[–] son_named_bort@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

The magical fruit?

[–] OpenStars@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago

Serves you right - now you know to keep checking it more often! :-P

(\s btw:-)

[–] CrypticFawn@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 years ago

That's what ya get for sleeping! 😂

[–] paddirn@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

That's a good sign. One of the endearing things about Reddit was coming in and discovering some weird-ass new trend that had blown up in the space of 24 hours that everybody else had already gotten on board for. "Ok, I guess we're doing people doing paintings of other people standing next to their paintings and making a big chain, that's cool." There'd be the initial trend itself, then reaction-memes to that trend, then shitposts making fun of the trend, then finally, after a span of time, TIL posts talking about the trend after the fact.
