Lemmygrad on steroids

michael-laugh

Our grad comrades catching way to many strays since we federated.

[-] Parsani@hexbear.net 68 points 1 year ago

The other day someone called hexbear "lemmygrad-lite". Moving up in the world ig

That was the nudge I needed to make an account over here. I joined midwest.social because it was an explicitly leftist server. I would have been very sad to lose access to the good posts here now that I know about them, and honestly I'm pretty baffled at the number of users native to that instance who are bitching about you all in that thread.

Edit: thank you all so much for the warm welcome ❤️

Welcome to the bear site! We're happy to have you.

[-] riseuppikmin@hexbear.net 44 points 1 year ago

If you haven't gotten a welcome glad to have you here.

It's a little chaotic, there are struggle sessions, but so long as people come with actually open minds it's generally incredibly friendly here.

[-] Parsani@hexbear.net 41 points 1 year ago

Welcome, please enjoy the fine selection of emojis

[-] unkn0wn@midwest.social 38 points 1 year ago

I also joined midwest.social because they claimed to be an explicitly leftist instance. It would be extremely disappointing if they defederate.

What's up with Hexbear? They think everything I post is Western Propaganda, why would they ever think that?fedposting

[-] AlkaliMarxist@hexbear.net 68 points 1 year ago

repeat CCP talking points while waving anyway anything even remotely reliable as Western propaganda.

Now this is dialectics

[-] ewichuu@hexbear.net 65 points 1 year ago

Honestly defederation is a really awful part of the fediverse. It would be so much easier to just let people block the instances they want instead of leaving it up to the mods to control what information users get, that's one of the main criticisms of reddit too

I don't want to be spoonfed the same rhetoric by the same people over and over, I like reaching out and actually listening to what people have to say and decide for myself - now to do that I have to make an account here instead of just browsing with my regular instance

[-] NailBunny@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Watching all the chaos that has ensued from the "brigading" is what pushed me to actually make an account on this instance too. You all seem like a really wonderful group of people beneath the pile of emojis and dunking and I found myself genuinely saddened by the idea of defederation so soon after Hexbear started making the place fun.

[-] ewichuu@hexbear.net 26 points 1 year ago

Yeah I have to say, I don't think I'm a full blown communist but it was a real breath of fresh air to see people genuinely argue against the mind implanted hegemonic liberal narratives so many just believe intrinsically...

honestly when I joined I was a bit scared but I've been treated far nicely here than any other community I wanted to ask questions to, even generally leftist ones like vegans and such

As I understand it, Hexbear has existed for years before federating with the rest of the network. Someone commented a couple months ago about the closing of the Chapo Traphouse subreddit (2020, same as r/theDonfuck) and users moving there. I believe they already had a strong community before linking up with other instances.

I may be wrong on the details and welcome corrections. Hexbear users: I considered joining your instance when I was still a lurker. Try not to crucify me if I got anything wrong.

[-] Gay_Tomato@hexbear.net 29 points 1 year ago

fishe I offer you a fishe honored visitor!

[-] AlkaliMarxist@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago

Yep, I think we added some features which broke compatibility with mainline lemmy and it took a while to merge back, but we’ve been around for 3 years.

[-] Outdoor_Catgirl@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

It mostly was pronouns iirc

[-] AlkaliMarxist@hexbear.net 38 points 1 year ago

Our pronouns were too powerful for lemmy

I can't believe these willingly federated instances are brigading hexbear!

Don't they know you're supposed to only stick to your local instance and that anyone who comments from another instance is a bot?

[-] honeynut@lemm.ee 55 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

It's funny this is the same user whose comment I replied to 10 hours ago telling them about Hexbear being one of the OG instances (which is why it has a lot of users), but they go ahead and make the same thinly veiled "omg they're botting!" accusation 4 hours later in a whole ass post trying to sneak diss y'all in their home instance.

The way they tell it, you'd think everything from DW, to Fox, to Propublica, to straight up AP News articles, are all written by the same people.

The stenographers all sound like they're grown in a vat. They all espouse the same views, have the same delusions, etc

Anyone who does actual journalism and not just PR work for the state dept gets driven out of MSM

[-] neo@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago

I can't comment on the locked post, but this

Ah yes, the classic wealthy journalist. Everyone knows that reporting is where the big bucks truly lie. I guess it's impossible for literally anyone living anywhere but the like 3 countries that pretend to be communist to report on anything accurately.

Is literally poking at the propaganda model described by Herman and Chomsky. The point isn't that any individual journalist is so loaded that they write to defend their wealth. It's that they're selected for their jobs, and are even considered for them in the first place, because they usefully slot into said jobs for the capitalist owners of the journalism outlets. With a few exceptions most of the journalists at, your choice [NYT, WaPo, Atlantic, Time, etc], are there because their pre-existing beliefs. Perfectly exemplified in this Chomsky clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLcpcytUnWU

"I don't say you're self-censoring. I'm sure you believe everything you're saying. But what I'm saying is if you believed something different you wouldn't be sitting where you're sitting."

[-] GnastyGnuts@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago

Liberals individualize everything to the point that they think individual reporters and journalists have to be "in on it" in some way to contribute to propaganda.

Can someone please help my emoji game with some good ones to express exasperation?

If there's something that conveys violent eye rolling it would be a bullseye
