Political Correctness > Woke > CRT > DEI > ??

Sooner or later somebody's going to have to admit that they're just never going to be happy.

[–] HowManyNimons@lemmy.world 27 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Forgot SJWs. Remember when we were Social Justice Warriors? That was funny.

[–] ilinamorato@lemmy.world 14 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Oh, good call. I prefer to be a Social Justice Paladin, myself.

[–] laurelraven@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Could I be a Social Justice Bard instead? Or maybe a Social Justice Warlock...

How many iterations will it take for them to just say what they're really against: policies that promote empathy and compassion for people who are different

[–] BingoBangoBongo@midwest.social 9 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Not unless they can own slaves again.

[–] BallsandBayonets@lemmy.world 14 points 7 months ago (1 children)

That's the ironic part. Even if we went back to 1800 the vast majority of these angry people wouldn't be slave owners because they wouldn't be able to afford it. They'd actually be far more likely to be debt-slaves than own any people themselves. The era they actually want to go back to is an idealized version of the 1950s, when you couldn't own people but you could call them slurs in public, they had separate drinking fountains, and they lived far away from you. Plus you could hit your wife if dinner didn't taste perfect, physical and mental abuse was how kids were raised (when you saw them at all), and one income could raise a family.

Sad how those last six words are the only thing we could agree on and should actually get back to, but it's cheaper for the owner class to stoke hate.

I was confused about how people were angry about Cathode Ray Tubes at first. Had to search both initialisms to figure out what the post is about.

[–] macrocarpa@lemmy.world 20 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Oh wow. THANK YOU for knowing the difference between an acronym and an an initialism. You've genuinely made my day.

[–] MrFunnyMoustache@lemmy.ml 5 points 7 months ago

I learned it somewhere on Lemmy a few weeks ago :D

[–] BeigeAgenda@lemmy.ca 8 points 7 months ago (2 children)

What did your search turn up about DEI?

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 19 points 7 months ago

Drug Enforcement Igency

[–] MrFunnyMoustache@lemmy.ml 15 points 7 months ago (3 children)

Diversity Equity and Inclusion. Is it not correct?

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 14 points 7 months ago

Equity

"hey can I get some more home equity? the gays say I should have more" lol

I thought it was CRT -> LCD...

US politics has too many acronyms and becomes more incomprehensible by the day.

It's been coupled together from the start, but I have been seeing it more often recently, in particular with the whole Boeing fiasco, multiple outlets blaming DEI. Wouldn't be surprised if Boeing was behind the propaganda efforts to help deflect responsibility.

[–] PM_Your_Nudes_Please@lemmy.world 18 points 7 months ago (2 children)

It’s also being used in the Baltimore bridge collapse. Lots of “the boat wouldn’t have hit it if they had more white people on the crew. This was caused by DEI hiring inept crews” and “it’s cuz of all the lazy black people getting hired to work on the bridge. It wouldn’t have collapsed if white people were maintaining it” rhetoric.

Both of those felt gross to even type out, but I have 100% seen both of them being parroted in response to the collapse.

You guys keep coming up with different names for "not being an asshole", then some asshole comes and claims it's some evil scheme because the name's so fucking obscure that of course dumbasses are going to fall for that shit

[–] Sianna@feddit.de 17 points 7 months ago (3 children)

What is DEI? New conspiricy dropped? Heard it couple times over the last days but kinda missed it

[–] Speculater@lemmy.world 31 points 7 months ago

Diversity Equity Inclusion, three things conservatives in every country hate.

I forgot what CRT was. It feels like its been years. Critical Race Theory, right? It was just a few months ago they were talking about it though.

Complaining about education (ex: common core) is pretty common because no one likes change. CRT could at least arguably be seen as a new subject matter / new way of teaching history that people wouldn't like. But DEI is... like going really mask off now.

It stands for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

It's essentially another way to treat minorities more fairly, so (American) conservatives want to get rid of it

[–] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

DEI = Dangerously Electric Illumination. 100x brighter than oled.

[–] lobut@lemmy.ca 6 points 7 months ago

Yet another tan suit.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 5 points 7 months ago

Wait a minute, guys… does this mean we stopped brainwashing kids to be trans? Let's make sure we're all on the same page of the playbook.

[–] nymwit@lemm.ee 5 points 7 months ago

We got real close to "15 minute cities" but that doesn't light up the outrage centers of the brain like DEI I guess. Shame.
