thats why their president wants everyone to do 60 hour work weeks, so everyone can work extra hard for democracy!

[–] TheTaglineToldMeTo@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

In South Korea you have the freedom to work 60 hours, but In North Korea, all jobs are banned except for dusting the Kim Jong-un portrait. If you are found doing anything else, you will be executed for 12 generations. yeonmi-park

Oh shit. I'm going to go make accounts on lemm.ee when I want to do a LIB bit from now on. It really adds a layer of authenticity when pretending to be the worst person you can imagine.

how has media so successfully gaslit people into believing that the ukraine was ever even successful at being a liberal democracy? i guess all that rampant corruption that was covered by liberal outlets suddenly stopped being a thing when the SMO started thonk

[–] GaveUp@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago

Because they want and need to believe it so that it justifies their warmongering and bloodlust against Russia

This essay is mentioned too often but it's so good https://redsails.org/masses-elites-and-rebels/

I told them that what they called Western hegemony is different from the rules based order. They said the rules based order is Western hegemony. And I said I agreed. That is what I am saying. Real Western hegemony is a rules based order. And they said yes, that is what we are trying to get rid of. And I said no, but we don't even have that right now. We need more Western hegemony. And everyone at the same time was like "nooo" we are socialists, we are against Western hegemony. Socialists oppose Western hegemony. And I said but not social democrats. Social democrats are the socialists who support NATO.

And I saw someone accuse my post of strawmanning.

Step 1: Create a reverse Cuban missile crisis

Step 2: Sell weapons to nazis

Step 3: Take advantage of the chaos of war to use the IMF to loot the country

Step 4: ???

Step 5: Democracy

[–] footfaults@hexbear.net 43 points 1 year ago

You could honestly argue that it was America putting nukes in Turkey, and should actually be called the Turkish missile crisis

[–] Fuckass@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago

If it wasn’t democratic, Ukraine wouldn’t have created a web page specifically for privatization on their own volition.

[–] lemmee@hexbear.net 48 points 1 year ago (6 children)

Wow, is this some sort of Moscow-funded Russian disinformation bot farm instance? Russia is an existential threat to the US and we have to draw a line somewhere. This war is about democracy. A democratic Ukraine vs fascist Russia. If we don’t stop them in Ukraine, democracy is over.

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 43 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The US is an extistental threat to all life on earth, liberal

Edit: damnit, I fell for it

[–] Fuckass@hexbear.net 30 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

No. It’s a Havana-funded Cuban disinformation bot farm instance.

Russia is an existential threat to the US and we have to draw a line somewhere.

Russia hasn’t done anything to me. China hasn’t done anything to me (in the present day). In fact, China is constantly calling for the U.S. to stop war mongering and just do business, but the US can’t help it but keep inching closer to their airspace and play chicken.

The U.S. is an existential threat to MY HEALTH, because I’m not likely to be shot or run over by a Russian or Chinese soldier. I am, however, likely to be shot or run over by an American next door. So fuck off with Russia and China and fix the problems here first, then come back and ask me to join your dumb wars. The answer will be no anyway.

Libs know exactly ONE thing about history - that Chamberlain tried to appease Hitler by letting him take the Sudetenland, and it didn’t stop him - and think it’s some universal truth that applies in every situation.

[–] Zuzak@hexbear.net 36 points 1 year ago (2 children)

That exact analogy has been used by high ranking US officials to justify nearly every conflict since the WWII, including Korea, Vietnam, and the War on Terror.

[–] Victor_Lucas@hexbear.net 38 points 1 year ago

It's also not true at all, i.e not a fact. Chamberlain wanted to collaborate with Hitler, not appease him.

Of course this is only surprising to Liberals who can't imagine why the leader of the British Empire would be a fascist 🤔💭◻️

[–] rubpoll@hexbear.net 28 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If we aren't constantly killing millions of people, we might fail to kill the next Hitler.

[–] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 27 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

But also remember that killing Hitler would make you just as bad as Hitler, sweaty.

Killing poor people and destroying the ecosystem is fine tho

[–] Victor_Lucas@hexbear.net 32 points 1 year ago

Liberals know exactly one thing about history and it's not even true

[–] YoungBelden@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago

it's so nice to be able to reduce the world to simple stories and metaphors

i know the soviet union sucked bceause i've read (a summary of) animal farm

i know violence is not the answer because i watched that one MLK car advert and idk ghandi or smth and also professor x is better than magneto

i know putin is evil because someone compared him to voldemort and also its probably because his mom didn't love him

The guy who banned opposition parties and suspended elections and installed by a coup is a defender of democracy?

Democracy is more of a vibe you know

This is domino theory. It doesn't look good on paper, and it has lead to incredible amounts of war and death and destruction in the real world, including WW1. Many also argued that domino theory would lead to a bunch of democracies in the middle east after a democratic utopia was created in Iraq. No real world application for domino theory has been found.

[–] Findom_DeLuise@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

Real Domino's Theory has never been tried because the Noid always gets his due

[–] TheGamingLuddite@hexbear.net 40 points 1 year ago

It's such a perfect line because it reveals their total neoliberalization, the entire monstrous, bloody affair of war is justified by a potential Return on Investment.

[–] betelgeuse@hexbear.net 39 points 1 year ago

If Ukraine isn't open to Western investors then maybe Taiwan won't be either. Then South Korea. Then Poland. How will my boss's boss make a steady 15% on his capital if that happens?

This is an investment in democracy.

[–] GeorgeZBush@hexbear.net 39 points 1 year ago (6 children)

Libs are so desperate to have a cause. They want Biden to be the new FDR, they want a new arsenal for democracy, they want Putin to be Hitler, and so on. It's all hollow.

[–] Tachanka@hexbear.net 36 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Democracy is when you expand NATO to encircle former soviet nations, and basically tell them outright "if you don't join us, willingly, and allow your economies to get privatized, deregulated, and hollowed out by foreign direct investment and IMF loan debt, you're gonna get balkanized" and then proceed to use one of the most traumatized and nations in Europe (Ukraine) as a staging ground for the CIA to send millions of dollars to reactionary militias so they can start a civil war by burning a bunch of separatists in a union hall to death, and then proceed to pit former soviet nations against each other in a completely avoidable and unnecessary war... and the more you do all that, the more democratic it is.

something something international rules based world order

[–] jackmarxist@hexbear.net 25 points 1 year ago (5 children)

This is tankie Russian propaganda. NATO doesn't just target ex Soviet Countries, it targets the whole world.

Maybe they could help Mexicans and Native Americans as practice.

[–] Frank@hexbear.net 24 points 1 year ago

"Democracy" Jesus fucking christ.

[–] BynarsAreOk@hexbear.net 23 points 1 year ago

What amazes me is still the complete disconnect. I literally want someone like this to go talk to some homeless person, or someone that just lost their child to a psycho with a gun or even the average person in your average [insert bullshit retail job here] clearly struggling to pay rent or whatever that the 50 billion or something in Ukraine is a fucking investment in democracy.

Motherfucker invest into something tangible at least once for starters, like I am pretty sure your average human being next to you(assuming you're actualy real and actualy spends time outside not some NAFO loser in a basement LARPing as some "democracy holy warrior" or something) could give you a list and I'm sure 99% of the time it wont start with some piece of shit missile worth 50k a pop to some random Ukrainian teenager in a trench somewhere or 50 million per plane that can't even fly etc.
