This is a general community for 40k miniatures, art, lore discussion, and gameplay discussion.

Rules

  1. Keep it civil.
  2. No memeposts/shitposts. Memes are great but direct them to grimdank.
  3. Please mark any posts containing realistic nudity or realistic excessive gore/violence as NSFW; this rule mainly applies to cosplay and realistic drawings rather than miniatures. Being that 40k is inherently violent, this is a judgement call, and mods may occasionally request posters add tags.
  4. No political or social cause agenda pushing.

I've been busy over the past few months adding to my Salamanders.

Above is Adrax Agatone. I thought he would be much more difficult that he actually was. Very good sculpt with lots of detail. The scales on the cape are tedious but not difficult to do at all.

Here's what else I've been working on.

Gravis Captain w/ a custom helmet from Liber Daemonica.

Ballistus Dreadnought

Company Heroes (minus the guy I converted to a Lt.)

Heavy Intercessors

Scout Squad 1

Scout Squad 2

Side note: I really did not like the Kill Team Scout kit. 1. All their legs were two pieces which led to gaps and I actually had one guy fall apart while I was painting him. 2. Some of the arms didn't fit on quite right. Like if you weren't building the Kill Team load out it didn't sit flush against the body.

Land Raider Redeemer. "King Gizzard" named after the band King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard. They have a metal album that is basically themed after the Salamanders so I thought it was appropriate.

Captain Gizzard led my old Salamanders. Always accompanied by a librarian.

Some greenstuff or sculpting mix pushed around with whatever cheap silicon tipped tools you can buy online will deal with the gaps. It’s absolutely no excuse for GW not making betters kits, but it does solve a short term problem.

For painting I rarely use contrast paints, but I find the flesh paint to be excellent applied over bronze/gold as a way to give it depth. It works better for me than traditional brown washes.

Fully agree on both points!

Contrast paint is a game changer, I love sponging it over a base metallic to get a really nice "aged metal" look on large panels.
