I work in property maintenance and have worked management. I've worked in some places like this where I did one shift and said "fuck that". I ain't getting shot or stabbed by these crazy tenants over this job, it's not worth it. This causes a loop where nobody fixes up these places cause nobody who can is willing to risk their lives to work there and do it. So the owners of the property just sit back and let the place fall apart.

Agreed, in my case it was a run down apartment building that was purchased for cheap. New owner just collected money to the point where realtors would refuse to show places with peeling carpets and moldy showers.

"Contrary to recent claims, the city did not evict anyone from these properties but has communicated with the property owners regarding the unsafe conditions of the buildings and need to immediately rectify the dangerous living conditions,” local leaders said, according to WLS-TV.

Rectifying dangerous living conditions by boarding up actual living people inside apartments. Makes sense.

I suppose these people are expected to just starve to death? Just another day in America where it's illegal, immoral and always shameful to be poor.
