Liberal in what sense? Every country has slightly differing views on what "liberal" means.

[-] Worx@lemmynsfw.com 15 points 8 months ago

Presumably liberal in the American use, as in "conservative with a slightly less shitty coat of paint"

[-] samus12345@lemmy.world 12 points 8 months ago

"Conservative but not Christofascist."

Those who claim to support minorities but act like minorities with no power even when they hold office.

The plutocracy has sway over both sides of the political aisle.

Unfortunately Democrats are still leagues beyond republicans. There's not much choice at all.

They're making perfect the enemy of good and wiping away the good things that democrats do.

Why? What's wrong with meowpoleon?

[-] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 8 points 8 months ago

The scene in the painting is of Napoleon after he had definitely done something.

[-] weeabooextract@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

Napoleon, despite the whole "overthrowing republic in favour of monarchy" thing is considered to be one of the main reasons the ideals of the Revolution managed to stick in Europe. Napoleonic Code was a piece of legislation far more progressive than most of that era, and continued to be used in many countries that were subservient to Napoleonic France until the 20th century.

So…. Is it ALL of Lemmy that’s bOtH siDeS now, or just certain parts of it. I’d like to know if it’s time to go back to Reddit.

[-] rwhitisissle@lemmy.world 18 points 8 months ago

Most lemmy instances are overwhelmingly leftist. If you're a leftist, democrats and republicans are to the right of you. So, it's less "both sides" and more "these two things are on the same side, which is to the right of me."

I'm glad my country is never ruled by just one party. The neoliberal party needs a coalition with better parties and they actually push some good stuff through. Last time we got free public transit within a county and this time we got same-sex marriage. The neoliberal party has been screwing with the economy though and we got like the highest inflation and highest rise in housing prices in Europe.
