Republican presidential candidate Trump had to be asked twice during a televised town hall event in Iowa to deny that he would abuse power to seek revenge on political opponents if re-elected to the White House.

"No. No. Other than day one," Trump said when asked to deny he would become a "dictator" if he wins the November election.

Trump said on the "day one" he referred to, he would use his presidential powers to close the southern border with Mexico and expand oil drilling.

Trump, seeking a second White House term in a likely election re-match with Democratic President Joe Biden, has frequently promised "retribution" on political opponents if he gains power again.

It’s kind of insane that a US Presidential candidate would even need to defend themselves from an accusation like that in the first place. Usually that’s just a given, that’s like a basic qualification for the job.

Trump's not a real big fan of "givens" that apply to everyone else. He eats damn pizza with a knife+fork like an ackshual monster?!

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago (1 children)

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Give him a Snickers on a plate..........

[–] qwertyWarlord@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Well you see, his supporters want him to be a dictator. They support him because he's against everything the system stands for, the same system they feel cheats them and doesn't work for them. No thought to the alternative mind you, just an anti status quo vote

[–] EatYouWell@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

They also like him because he hates the same people they hate.

What they don't realize is that he hates them too.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 63 points 11 months ago (2 children)

"Except on day one"... ಠ_ಠ

[–] Lmaydev@programming.dev 17 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Pretty chilling words really.

Luckily he doesn't understand what he's saying.

[–] Modva@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago

And even that is a lie.

[–] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 55 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Republican Mouth-Breathers: See? He's only going to become a dictator and abuse power on his first day!! Why is everyone so worried??!

goes back to sniffing glue and dying of preventable diseases

[–] Hyperreality@kbin.social 22 points 11 months ago (1 children)

They know he wants to become a dictator. They're lying. They don't care or actively want him to become a dictator.

[–] JustZ@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago

"Nah it's going to be fine you'll see, oh shit I have the measles."

[–] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 41 points 11 months ago (1 children)

"Other than day one"

What he should have said, was nothing. What he did say is, "you'd be surprised"

The only safe Trump is a dead Trump, and we need a safe Trump.

[–] IphtashuFitz@lemmy.world 14 points 11 months ago (2 children)

I want to see him carted off to prison first. One can only hope.

"We will go out and find the conspirators, not just in government but in the media… We’re going to come after you—whether it’s criminal or civilly, we’ll figure that out. But yeah, we’re putting you all on notice and Steve, this is why they hate us. This is why we’re tyrannical.”

— Trump adviser Kash Patel, in an interview with Steve Bannon, saying Donald Trump is serious about revenge.

[–] Iwasondigg@lemmy.one 32 points 11 months ago

Uhh the headline leaves out the most important part of the quote - "except on day one." So, yes, he did confirm he'd be a dictator!

[–] eran_morad@lemmy.world 31 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Why the fuck is this traitor not in a fucking supermax?

[–] CmdrShepard@lemmy.one 4 points 11 months ago

That's not true. I believe Supermax is his preferred brand of adult diapers and he's in them quite frequently.

[–] osarusan@kbin.social 29 points 11 months ago

He literally says he will be a dictator on day one, so how the fuck does the media come up with this title?

I swear the fucking incompetent and dishonest media is 100% why he won in 2016, and it's why he will win in 2024.

[–] takeda@lemmy.world 25 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Pinky promise.

He would still call himself a president like his pals, Vlad and the Rocket Man.

[–] HejMedDig@feddit.dk 25 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Because he's such an honorable man, and true to his word.... Not!

[–] ivanafterall@kbin.social 24 points 11 months ago (1 children)

He did say "Only on day 1." He'll only become a dictator that once, then never again.

[–] HejMedDig@feddit.dk 7 points 11 months ago

Ahh.. nice loophole

[–] ivanafterall@kbin.social 14 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Fine, but you're on thin ice, mister!

[–] aeronmelon@lemm.ee 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

At his size, isn't all ice thin ice?

[–] JustZ@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

It's not the weight that's dangerous for him on the ice. It's his tiny feet. All that weight pressed on a tiny little area of ice. Everyone knows when you're on thin ice you have to distribute your weight. Trump cannot do that because his feet and even his hands are so weirdly small and little-kid like that he will poke right through like an obese orange ice pick. Probably a product of inbreeding. You don't get tiny deformed little feet like that without some cousin fucking and crossed branches in your family tree.

[–] stopthatgirl7@kbin.social 12 points 11 months ago

If he has to tell us he won’t, he 100% will.

[–] dangblingus@lemmy.world 11 points 11 months ago

Ahhh yes. Now of all times he must be telling the truth!

[–] Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago

I believed it before, but now that he's said he won't I'm convinced he will
