What is in your opinion the best wireless VR headset that is not one of the Quest headsets/from Meta?

Currently I have the Valve Index but I would rather have a wireless headset because I think I would use it more when there is less effort to set it up in my living room to start playing.

I think you can get one of those high bandwidth WiFi dongles for the HTC Vive

If I have to buy an adapter anyway I might even wait for the Nofio module for the Index.

i mean, if you already have an Index, it'd be silly to buy a different headset, just to buy a wireless adapter for it.

just wait for the Nofio, obviously.

but if you had or were considering a Vive or Vive Pro, then there is a option for wireless.

There was rumors of valve working on a new VR headset but that might be a long ways away.

There have been rumors of that since day 2 of the index being released...

honestly, get a pico 4, they are used 200 to 250 bucks now, a killer deal. Their OS is way less bs than meta, and the streamer for your PC is just 80mb, compared to 8 gb with the quest. It also launches you straight into steamvr. Pico just figured out how to make their os actually usable.

Pico being from byte dance might give OP the same misgivings as quest being from meta

its way easier to turn off telemetry on pico and you wont have 8gb of bloatware just to use pcvr. on pico you only have to make a dummy account go online once, thats it, on meta you have to use a smartphone, turn on location, then give them your phone number to even sideload and be online to do all that. You tell me whats worse.

Meta is cancer on our society, but you can use a Quest to run PC VR games with Virtual Desktop.

It's not about if I can run PC VR games with it, it's about not using anything from Meta and not giving them any money.

If you buy the smaller Quest 3 and never spend anything on games I’m pretty sure they’re loosing money on you, they most likely sell the base Quest 3 at a loss. Doesn’t help if you want to avoid meta altogether though.

Depends on how much they're getting for selling your sweet juicy userdata

[-] awwwyissss@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Agreed, I think they sell the headsets at a loss. I get it though.
