Germany is overdue for a huge military anyways.

We've got a decade or so till we get to that episode rerun

[–] MelastSB@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 year ago

I thought we skipped the first episode rerun to do a merged 2-episode special edition?

Gotta start building those pocket-sized battleships now. It takes a while to finish them.

"Twice denied, the Fourth Reich rises."

Rated R for blood, gore, violence and sexual themes. Children and animals were harmed in the production of this media.

Luckily we Germans are responsible and peaceful people in that matter.

😬

I think the way most Germans have owned the mistakes of Germany past, instead of trying to deny or ignore them, is an example that should be applauded and emulated by the rest of the world.

What could possibly go wrong?

Those uniforms remind me of the WWII uniforms. The German military certainly has some historical credibility.

[–] ElmarsonTheThird@feddit.de 9 points 1 year ago

It's the worst representation of Bundeswehr-Uniforms in that regard. The grey coats are the dress uniforms of the 'Heer', the land forces. The grey caps are of its mountain branch, the 'Gebirgsjäger'. Other land forces like tanks, artillery, pioneers have coloured wool berets. Navy and Air Force Uniforms are way more modern.

They certainly could be doing more to avoid the association with WW2 uniforms lol

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Our own population, as well as our partners in Europe, North America and the world, expect us to face up to this responsibility," the new defense guidelines said.

It went on to say that a well-equipped military capable of victory in high-intensity combat at any time "is the only way to ensure credible deterrence and peace."

The 19-page document reflects the major defense policy shift, known as "Zeitenwende," announced by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

In an editorial for the Tagesspiegel newspaper ahead of the guidelines' release, Pistorius said Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine meant the continent faced a renewed military threat, which fundamentally altered the role of Germany and the Bundeswehr.

As such, the document officially highlighted Russia as the main long-term threat to peace and security facing Germany and its European allies.

The new defense policy document calls on decision-makers in the German government and the military to take action to speeding up purchases of much-needed equipment and construction programs.
