It's like their search function is worse than reddit. Is it on purpose and is there like a trick to make it function right? Are there better alternatives, has anyone built an api for them? They do seem to have a lot and quality links - search is just terrible

It’s garbage. Myanonamouse for the win.

Man ABB is actually a pretty good public tracker for audiobooks. I've used it back when all I had was a broadband internet connection.

But yeah i agree. MaM ftw

I couldn't make sense of it either, ended up on myanonamouse instead

How was applying for an invite? I see on the website they have limited windows twice a week. What is entailed?

Be sure to THOROUGHLY read through the rules and tips/tricks if you get in. You have to maintain a certain ratio, among other caveats. Easy to do, generally speaking. Easier if you donate a small amount of money to get VIP status up front.

They ask you questions about the rules and a few basic questions like what client/VPN you use. It was pretty easy, just keep the rule page open in another window so you can check it

myanonamouse is awesome

I'll set an alarm for Wednesday :)

The search isn't the greatest but I can usually find whatever I'm after. Sometimes searching for either title or author works best.

What kind of book are you trying to find? I've never had a problem.

You have to use both author + title or use the advanced search to specify the title otherwise it tries to search the full contents of all torrents on the entire site. Personally I found myanonmouse to be lacking a lot of things I found on ABB plus all the baggage that comes with being on a private tracker

I usually have way more success finding books when I search by author and not title. Too many irrelevant results come back when searching by title

What book are you trying to search for? I've noticed that they definitely have a lot, but sometimes not everything, especially if the books are newer. I haven't really had an issue with the search function though, what exactly is happening when you try searching for a book?

[–] midas@ymmel.nl 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I was searching for "Thanks for the feedback" - could be they just don't have it. I don't have an example on hand but Ive had it happen that my search result was just irrelevant stuff and later I found the book through related categories. Searching for the literal titles doesn't filter properly for me at least.

It generally works better when you put your search query within quotes and scroll down to check at least 4-5 results to see whether any worthwhile results are there.

Other than that I don’t think there is much of a problem with the search function.

I always search by author and then either add a key word from the specific book title or the whole book title I am looking for. Works well enough.
