Waffle House workers are rising up across the South to demand 24/7 security, an end to unfair paycheck deductions, and a fair wage from the iconic Southern restaurant.

Oh man, if service workers can unionize, we may finally be able to rid ourselves of this tipping culture we all hate so much. God speed, service workers. Really pulling for you.

Oh fuck yes

Though last time I went there was some dude working there with literally the Waffle House logo tattooed on his bicep. That was some sad shit

24/7 security

I couldn't even imagine being the lone chef/waiter with a register in a Waffle House at 3 am. Which I've seen happen. At least service stations in bad areas get bulletproof glass and a sliding box where you put your money in and get products out. Waffle Houses must get robbed constantly.

If you’re unfamiliar, the deductions they are talking about is a shift meal deduction. IIRC, I think it’s a 2 tier deduction where if you work like ~6 or less you get a meal deducted from the shift you worked and 6+ is two meals from your paycheck. The hour amount might be different, but there is a tiered system to it

It’s a fair ask, because some people do not want to eat Waffle House. Tho tbf, managers probably don’t even track if you ate meals at all and I have eaten more than 2 meals on shift

In any case, I do believe that there should be a clause stating that wages should increase a certain amount to keep up with CoL changes

While it was an interesting time working there, it was by no means an easy time. They do deserve higher wages and a safer work env

Waffle House employees need protection from customers in addition to from the company lol. I love Waffle House but man they can be shady as hell. Fights, violent crackheads, drug deals, prostitution, you name it. Like Denny's alterego with more crime and better food. I hope they get a fair deal
