MODERATORS

Summary

Mark Zuckerberg has shifted Meta's policies and leadership toward conservative positions, signaling alignment with a potential Trump administration.

Key moves include ending professional fact-checking, reinstating Trump’s accounts, criticizing the Biden administration’s COVID-19 policies, and promoting Republican-aligned executives like Joel Kaplan.

Meta has also faced scrutiny for supporting Trump-aligned figures and causes, including donating to his inaugural fund.

Zuckerberg, previously supportive of some progressive initiatives, now emphasizes reduced content moderation, citing political and regulatory pressures.

Critics view this as a strategic pivot amid evolving U.S. political dynamics.

Facebook was always right-wing. Have people already forgotten the way they manually adjusted their newsfeed algorithm to favour right-wing outlets? (PDF link) https://www.congress.gov/118/meeting/house/115561/documents/HHRG-118-IF16-20230328-SD038.pdf

More or less. Now the mask has fallen off.

Zuck himself has made some noises about being "misled" by progressives into .. being more progressive? A charitable interpretation would be that he was clueless and didn't understood the reasons behind what he was told or thought.

Well, it is true that he was pretending to be progressive only out of convenience. He was always a huge dirtbag. The original iteration of Facebook showed pictures of female Harvard students and asked users to vote on which they found more attractive.

On a related note, what do you think is his motivation for releasing source available LLMs?

I'm assuming the same reason they are ostensibly on board with the fediverse - some kind of embrace-extend-extinguish tactic. I'm not Machiavellian enough to imagine the finer detail beyond that.

It's not like Zuckerberg is going to be harmed by the destruction of the planet due to right wing politics. He has his massive luxury vault in Hawaii.

I've always wondered if one could mess with the air intakes of these bunkers to flush them out.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Much easier: wait until he's inside and brick over the door.

Cory Doctorow wrote a book called "Radicalized". One part (there are 4 short stories) is about a rich billionaire who has a bunker when things go to shit, and he invites like 20 people to live with him there, then follows as they fail trying to live there. It's worth a read

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thanks, I'll check it out. I've been meaning to read more of his work.

Another story is a bit on the nose now, but is about radicalization caused by a failing medical industry. It was written in 2019.

Pepperidge Farm remembers fb selling data to Cambridge analytica for cruz and Trump in 2016 and lying Zuckerberg was all we're sorry, we can do better.

he knows why we dont catch him in public.

[–] MushuChupacabra@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

With impunity, and a callous disregard for who will be harmed by this?

Fascist business from a fascist country, nothing new here.

[–] fishabel 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Hey now, it’s not fascism yet. We still have the illusion of choice. That will go away in 2028 when we don’t have the burden of voting.

Don't be so pessimistic. I'm sure you'll be able to vote. For trump. Since there won't be any other legal parties. But voting will be allowed (as long as you vote for trump)
