I've started reading Atomic Habits. I remember it being recommended a lot back on Reddit, so it was in the back of my mind for years. I can recommend it here too.

I had a nice past two weeks! I got to spend some nice time with family. I hope everyone has a very good 2025 and that by the end of it, we're all doing better than in 2024. I really hope you all have a great year

I feel tired, but in a good way. Met up with more friends, ate good food, and had fun. My friends were kind enough to treat me a bit since they uh, understand my current financial position as broke college student™.

But I got good news this week: I now have two jobs! One being the internship, and the other is a student desk job (aka I get paid while doing homework type of job). It'll be busy, but it should be manageable. So I need to budget a plan to visit a friend this summer and pay some of my loans again (considering that I'll finally have some money to do so). Haha...

Other than that I've been studying again. Working on a community project for my career path, and figuring out my presidential duties for my club (club funding due date is approaching).

I still have about two weeks of break left, but it feels like my vacation is done. And honestly...I'm good with that. I feel like this was the most mentally productive break I've had in years. (-◡-◍)

Me and my wife hosted new years eve with friends, was a lot of fun but holy fuck I'm tired. Gonna try to make the most of the rest of the week.

There's a family event on Saturday that I'm really not looking forward to. Meeting relatives you never talk to etc. It's been mentally draining me so much, I don't think I should go, if only for mental health reasons. But it's hard to cancel on them because I feel guilty for never seeing them... So the cycle continues.

Not great. Depression taking its toll on my relationships but I really don't trust the only therapist I was able to get through work. I don't think she's going to be much help.

I'm also super sick, my throat is white with infection, and customers still keep making fun of me or yelling at me for wearing a mask in 2025. I'm starting to think I'm the stupid one for assuming it could be contagious.

I'm sorry, but 2025 is gonna suck.

@alyaza Finally great. I will soon have another job, just as the new year commences. It will be a challenge for me, as it will be a field I am not so well-prepared, but things seem good to go as of now. Will start buying some well-needed stuff soon, with my 1st salary.

I'm running out of money this month. I will need to borrow from a friend soon. Also, I started using my bike again today, as I can no longer afford to pay for transit until then and also have money for groceries. Will need to spend money as wisely as possible. But on the plus side, a few friends and I used my bike for carrying the groceries that we purchased for the New Year's Eve, for the very first time. The experience was quite good tbh. I carried a backpack worth of beer in my backpack and a bunch of bottles in my basket that sits right behind the saddle.

Speaking of transit, we just received the news that the metro (subway/underground) will be more expensive starting from January, which sucks big time. Quite a hectic atmosphere here tbh. I met with a friend today and on my route I encountered two protests.

One was likely the sovereignists in front of the Justice Court, as there were way too many national flags (later I also found that Călin Georgescu had to attend a trial or something - so likely these people were there to defend him).

The other was a gathering of unions of public sector workers, in front of the government. Our economy is doing pretty bad, so the government wants to cut some spending in the public sector and increase taxes (also add some new ones). IT workers (among some others) have the advantage of some tax cuts since 20 or so years ago, which were done in order to bolster the sector. Now the government wants to do away with these too. A friend of mine who just got a raise a month ago is worried about his salary going back down. I simply don't know what will happen. I just hope it will all go fine, and we will stay with you guys in NATO and EU, and we will still have (at least a bit of) democracy, whoever will win the seat for president in Spring.

Leaving politics aside, I am happy about the Fediverse once again. The server I'm on seems to run fine again, with no delays, compared with the begining of the month.

I'm mostly happy though because I found a new Friendica client, which seems really promising. Compared to Lemmy or Mastodon, Friendica doesn't get this much attention. Mostly people use Mastodon clients, but I strayed away from them, since I do not like the Xitter-type microblogging focused ones. And as they are the most used, people expect Friendica to also behave like a microblogging client - which is really not. It's much more than this.

So I tried out this client called Raccoon for Friendica (there's also a Lemmy client from the same dev) and I was immediately impressed by the feature set, since it has pretty much everything I was looking for in a Friendica client. The name is also hillarious and I love it. Never thought I would be using another dedicated client for Friendica too soon, less that it would be a raccoon as a mascot, but here we are. All the love for the trash pandas out there! #livefasteatrash

Congrats on the new job! Hope things start to look up for you.

It's a good week, although I just obviously got banned by @OneRedFox@beehaw.org, the mod in the Socialism community. Seems that different views are not welcome. I don't complain (it's your server, your rules), just wanted to let you know that. I was on Beehaw quite a while and didn't expect something like that.

Happy new year to everyone.

I don't know the case, but hopefully the mod is not closely related to the admin team, so it's not a big problem

Very near term, not bad. I have a bed in fixed housing for the night with my house batteries charging off mains ahead of the first major cold snap of the year. Beyond that is another question.

The holidays suck. You finally have a little time but everything is cancelled because it falls on a holiday and everyone is out of town. It's lonely as fuck

[–] remington@beehaw.org 8 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I'm sorry that you've had to deal with loneliness...I hate that feeling so much. Hopefully, it's only temporary and things turn around for you.

Thanks 😊
