"I just left Wayne Gretzky, 'The Great One' as he is known in ice-hockey circles," Trump posted on his Truth Social platform Wednesday afternoon.

"I said, 'Wayne, why don't you run for prime minister of Canada, soon to be known as the governor of Canada — you would win easily, you wouldn't even have to campaign.' He had no interest," Trump wrote.

His comment about being governor of Canada refers to Trump repeatedly suggesting the country become a U.S. state, which Ottawa insists is a joke.

Trump added that it would be "fun to watch" if Canadians launched a movement to get the retired hockey player to seek office.

4 more years of idiotic word salad, unless of course something stops that. I'm wishing for a stroke that leaves him speechless.

[–] DrDickHandler@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

4 years of trump is the best case scenario. The reality is that the republicans will hold office for years to come. They aren't going anywhere after Trump.

If we get enough Democrats in 2026 we could impeach Trump and Vance.

Oh my fucking god I cannot

This is so goddamn exhausting already, and he's not even president yet. The next 4 years (if we're lucky) are going to take a decade off my life.

soon to be known as governor of Canada

I swear to god

He doesn’t even know how a Prime Minister gets the job, does he? (You’re elected to the House of Commons in your riding (district), you’re the head of your political party, and your party either wins a majority in the House or a wins plurality and you’re able to form a ruling coalition with another party.)

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 67 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Buddy, he doesn't even know how the government works in his own country.

[–] macarthur_park@lemmy.world 28 points 21 hours ago

Dude doesn’t know how umbrellas work, much less any system of government.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 9 points 17 hours ago

Did he say anything about his penis size?

Him saying it would be "fun to watch" clearly shows how he just sees politics as entertainment. He's god and the world is his theatre.

Him saying it would be "fun to watch" clearly shows how he just sees politics as entertainment.

And that he sees chaos as entertaining.

Which explains much of what he talks about.

[–] abbadon420@lemm.ee 4 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Yes, that too. Since I was doing the God comparison, he's Loki

[–] meyotch@slrpnk.net 2 points 12 hours ago

I’m going with a dvrgr, a Norse dwarf. There are hundreds in that pantheon and they are all vile creatures.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

Loki isn't a moron though

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

Yeah I think this post is very telling. Not new information, of course, but it just says so much about how little this man understands (or cares to understand) what politics even is.

This is foreign interference!

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago

Trump lets the world know about the one Canadian he can name without help.

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This is the first time, as a Canadian kid in the 80s, I’ve wanted Wayne to throw gloves.

[–] MapleEngineer@lemmy.world 20 points 23 hours ago

Gretzky has gone full fascist. That's why Trump wants him.

[–] Kecessa@sh.itjust.works 11 points 23 hours ago

Wayne is a Republican through and through, he wouldn't do anything to Trump.

[–] MapleEngineer@lemmy.world 5 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I bet that P Little Trump P is pretty butt hurt that daddy chose someone else instead of him.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago

Maple millhouse.

[–] xc2215x@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

He would have to be the nominee for the party first.

[–] mhague@lemmy.world -1 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (2 children)

Wait was Wayne Gretzky a rich kid?

Edit: of course, daddy built an entire rink in the backyard, where they would also play baseball and lacrosse on their farm.

It's not that impressive to be great when you start young and have rich parents. Can't believe I let people convince me Gretzky was noteworthy. He's not Gukesh lol

Edit: ok Canada must be different, because apparently Gretzky was poor and they just happened to have a farm and could spin up golf tournaments for charity. Sounds like a good story.

[–] ifItWasUpToMe@lemmy.ca 12 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

I knew a ton of farmers grown up, none of them were rich.

Also in Canada is pretty easy to build an ice rink.

Step 1: have any sort of decent size pond on your farm

Step 2: wait for winter

[–] mhague@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Makes sense, I read lacrosse and jumped to conclusions about the people they were. Well that, and his dad being a philanthropist... repair man? Working class guy who organized golf tournaments to help the blind.

[–] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 4 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

I'm a few years older than Gretsky and things were different back then ...

  • we still had the Canadian Wheat Board, a collective that worked hard to get the best prices worldwide for Canadian farmer's crops (Conservative PM Harper sold the CWB to the Saudis and farmers lost a lot of money in that stupid deal)

  • Western Canada, and farmer's in general, had a huge voice in politicis. Government's generally worked for the benefit of farmers as they had a huge impact on Canada's GDP

  • in gr 5 farmer's kids started being bused into city schools, and I was amazed at how 'rich' they were compared to us city kids, ie: they went on holidays all over North America (most of us city kids hardly ever went anywhere), they wore store-bought clothes (city kid's moms made our clothing), etc etc

[–] rabber@lemmy.ca 1 points 17 hours ago

We had an ice rink in our yard and were poor. It doesn't cost money to make one haha
