They‘re devolving into the gestapo of megacorps.

Is this really a top priority ? Nothing more nerve wracking about cybercrimes ?

Maybe interpol doesn't know China is straight up kidnapping people of the street in foreign (non-China) countries? Maybe they want to do something about that?

No?

Okay, then. Of course they're prioritizing someone downloading some jpgs, why would i think differently?

Not saying this is right but I guarantee the US does this as well. It is scary!

ooh scaaary! interpol is one of the least effectice organisations in the world and has close to zero real power. So fighting "piracy" and other "crimes" like this is one of the few things that they can do or pretend to do.

One of my friends (when I was in grade 7) was on the interpol missing children’s list. We were going to school and he told me this so later at lunch I went to the computer lab and looked him up and Lo and behold, there he is.

The story isn’t really relevant in this context. I just felt like sharing.

I did, some time ago, are you saying it was an interpol operation?

[–] atro_city@fedia.io 11 points 2 weeks ago

Woops, it was Europol that was involved in that, not Interpol.

Of course it has no power. It's an organisation indeed to enhance the collaboration between police in different countries.

[–] nesc@lemmy.cafe 1 points 2 weeks ago

Problem is this "collaboration" is a joke as well.

When you allow russia or saudi arabia or whatever else piece of shit use it to prosecute their "criminals" or at least as a public forum where they say who they want to prosecute it turns into a circus.

Interpol getting bribes from companies? Nah, that doesn't happen.
