By ending the cases rather than waiting to be fired, Smith may be able to issue a final report to the public.

What a sad day. What this situation tells me is that if you're nominated to run for president, you're free to commit crimes and nothing will happen to you because reasons. Glad the system is working as intended.

Just if you've got enough following in general. All these cases could have started a lot earlier but Biden/Garland wanted to avoid "looking political".

[–] stupidcasey@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

I think you have to be elected at least once.

Updated Pledge of Allegiance

"I pledge allegiance, to the Flag of the Republic of Gilead, and to the Fuhrer, ~~Donald J. Trump~~ JD Vance, for which it stands, one nation, under the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, divided, with liberty and justice for none."

Welcome to Fascist America!

That would be a fucking awesome movie.

Major bummer it's real life instead.

There's actually a TV Show where Nazis won WW2 and invaded USA. Man in the High Castle, might be a good time for me to rewatch. Its really interesting to watch, although the final season sucked ass. Better watch it before they ban it lol.

Oh you completely misunderstand the modern fascist playbook. Putin Erdogan Orban or Modi don't usually ban semi-obscure shows outright. They use their near complete control of all major media to ensure these shows never become a major cultural hit in the first place (by not funding nor platforming them). Cult classics aren't burned, their meaning is just subverted; Star Wars isn't a critique of fascism, it was always an allegory for the Righteous Traditionalists (the Jedi) working against The Woke (The Empire). No-one quite knows what Tolkien meant with Isengard, surely no allegory there, but I can tell you The Shire shows how good the tradwife life can be so get back to pumping out kids and churning butter missus!

Slight deviations are tolerated of course. Who cares if the urban elites have some woke media. As long as they keep to themselves, it's just convenient to keep the intellectuals distracted. Just don't make the mistake of making a nationwide cultural hit that questions the official narrative a bit too directly, because that's when you'll find yourself accidentally defenestrated.

The important thing they do is ensure no one organises against them. The media can be relaxed in that case.

is he expecting to still live here and not fall out of a window "accidentally"?

[–] Iheartcheese@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Trump probably won't even bother with accidents. I won't be surprised if we have televised executions.

With a gun, on fifth ave.

$8,000 to participate.

[–] pennomi@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

We don’t typically do that here, but Trump has certainly been talking with the world’s leader in defenestration.

[–] YarHarSuperstar@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Not typically but it does happen. That one CIA guy right?

[–] DefinitelyNotAPhone@hexbear.net 18 points 2 months ago (2 children)

You can learn everything you need to know about what America is as a country by comparing the total lack of a spine to prosecute Donald Trump for anything worth actually mentioning to the fact that the entire original leadership of BLM was brutally murdered in multiple incidents that clearly involved foul play only for there to be no meaningful investigations into their deaths.

Fascist billionaires get jerked off with velvet gloves by the state, while even the mildest of leftist organizers get suicided by six rounds to the back of the head in the burning wreckage of their car miles away from any roads they'd ever drive down on a regular basis.

[–] pudcollar@hexbear.net 9 points 2 months ago

I definitely shed my last vestiges of liberalism by the end of the Mueller investigation, when they decided after all that time that they weren't going to prosecute him anyway because he was the president.

[–] Assian_Candor@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago

Well what it really goes to show is who the state actually seems to be a threat to "democracy"

[–] Rom@hexbear.net 12 points 2 months ago

Ah, well, nevertheless.

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago

Lmao, precious separation of powers working as intended.

[–] hexthismess@hexbear.net 7 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Gotta love the adherance to "rule of law"agony-consuming

[–] intresteph 4 points 2 months ago

Rules for theeeeee

[–] IDKWhatUsernametoPutHereLolol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Bruh, the fascist won the popular vote too

[–] hexthismess@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago

I don't get the point you're making.

My comment points to liberals breaking their own rules to not prosecute the fascist-elect.

By ending the cases rather than waiting to be fired, Smith may be able to issue a final report to the public.

...who won't care in the slightest.

[–] bane_killgrind@slrpnk.net 6 points 2 months ago
