What did they do to have negative events in Canada?

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago

They know what they did.

[–] SmoothLiquidation@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

They will have to go do 4 more shows up there just to break even.

What's so special about that square one in the middle of nowhere (Colorado?) surrounded by zeroes?

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 22 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Colorado was one of the first states to legalize recreational weed, so I wonder if that factored in...

Also Red Rocks is there and they love to play multiple nights in a row there.

Yeah, everyone is saying Red Rocks but they haven't even played there since 2009. They've played at Dicks 45 times since 2009 because they do 3-4 shows every Labor Day weekend.

Like others have said, Red Rocks is a big part of it, but Colorado is also a bit of an island of civilization in the western part of the country. We're surrounded by Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Utah - which probably aren't the states you think of first when you think of budding metropolises. So lots of events are held in Colorado that attract people from neighboring states.

Also, Denver International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world since we're a huge connection hub to the rest of the country. So it's very easy to travel here.

Case in point:

I guess New Mexico is alright...

Red Rocks is one of the best venues a band can play in, it's a real destination for musicians

[–] GiantRobotTRex@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 1 week ago

I'm not sure why everyone is saying Red Rocks. Phish played three shows there in 2009 but they haven't played there since.

The real answer is that every Labor Day weekend they play 3 to 4 shows at Dick's Sporting Goods Park outside Denver (except in 2020 when the shows were cancelled).

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

The other reply is true but also: Phish fans are willing to travel. A 4+ hour trip to see them play is normal for a lot of them

135 times in one state?!?!?

[–] GiantRobotTRex@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 1 week ago

They love Madison Square Garden. Every year for New Year's Eve they play 4 shows there, plus they did a 13 show residency there in 2017 and a 7 show residency in 2023.

Vermont is their home state.

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But that’s New York. They only played once in Vermont.

[–] scottywh@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh wow... LoL... I didn't even look closely... I just assumed... That's kind of hilarious

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Lol, thank god. I was sure this was a sharks are smooth situation, forgetting that north eastern states are harder to tell apart on maps

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

That makes sense. Thanks

Tired of political bullshit?

Yes, yes I am.

Bless. Your. Heart. (dead serious. Thank you for something interesting)

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago

Only three more months of it to go in the US!

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Phish are weirdly involved in Indiana and weirdly uninvolved in Vermont

[–] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

Neat. Would be interesting to see this per capita.

I'm kind amazed that Maine got 7. Good on them.

Nope RFK stadium was already not being used when they toured in the mid 90’s. My sister-in-law followed them for many years and visited when they played in Maryland

Makes sense why I saw Trey Anastasio in NY.

Worst concert I’ve ever been to, left early.

[–] Mammothmothman@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

I just cant get into phish.

[–] SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Briefly met Trey before. Seemed chill.

Hard to imagine if he wasn't
