I have half a kilo of cinnamon.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

I accidentally spilled about a tablespoon of peppercorns on the floor and could hear my ancestors screaming in horror as I swept them up and threw them away.

[–] prettybunnys@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago

I have ice, on demand, and hot water, flushing toilets, magic boxes that entertain me.

I’d fucking give it all for an octopus vase….

[–] watersnipje@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But what do you store it in? A vase with an octopus on it?

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

A chest with a millipede motif

[–] watersnipje@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

Ok well that’s more than acceptable.

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

I have an electron rubiks cube

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You do want to keep octopuses in jars because they're dicks who fuck up the ocean for the rest of us.

And don't get me started on those fucking cuttlefish.

Blatant squid propaganda.

You don’t see me out here disparaging Hares or even jackrabbits do you?

Be better.

half breed abomination of nature and ought not be allowed to compete in our sports IMO, but only because they dope so heavily

There’s a reason they’re fast as fast can be … cocaine

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 34 points 3 days ago (2 children)

yeah but how many ceremonial buttplugs did they have? not just day to day buttplugs, I'm talking formal occasion ones.

[–] Zip2@feddit.uk 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I have to ask, what ceremony is that for and does it have a parade?

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

my dude the local permit guy has his head deeper up his butt than any of the plugs are supposed to go. I don't even want to try for a parade.

as far as what ceremony, everyone's got their rituals to make them feel special shut up

[–] Zip2@feddit.uk 2 points 2 days ago

Hey I’m not judging. Whatever floats your boat.

Or stops it sinking.

[–] iii@mander.xyz 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Could they sync it to the baseline of katy perry's roar?

[–] rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 6 points 2 days ago

There is our chance to surpass them!

[–] clb92@feddit.dk 46 points 3 days ago (1 children)

[–] EleventhHour@lemmy.world 35 points 3 days ago (1 children)
[–] meyotch@slrpnk.net 3 points 2 days ago

Woah there, Mr Deep! I see the way you are eye-banging that cephalopod.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 31 points 3 days ago (3 children)

On the other hand, they didn't have Fallout New Vegas and had to contend with the REAL Caesar's legions, so I say we still win.

[–] jagot@programming.dev 20 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Julius Cæsar lived during the Iron Age.

[–] RQG@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago

Both sound pretty metal.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Eh, close enough 🤷😉

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Bronze age

Julius Caesar

lol

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Fun fact: Julius Caesar wasn't the only Caesar by a long shot.

Additional fun fact: It was super late here when my brain farted that out 😄

[–] BruceTwarzen@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But they also don't have starfield

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Eh, Starfield isn't actually that bad. It isn't very good either, though, just mediocre.

Which would have been totally fine for an indie or a niche game from a major developer.

5 or 6/10 is worth playing for sure. It's just not worth paying AAA money or "this is going to be the best thing ever" style hype..

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I've had that, yes. Also dental care

[–] Klear@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Do octopodes even have teeth?

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Some of them (maybe all? Idk) have a venomous beak. So. There's that. :|

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 27 points 3 days ago (2 children)

octouses

Octopodes 🐙 🐙 🐙

[–] NorthWestWind@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)
[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Also correct. Octopii, too

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Words in English that end in "-us" and pluralize to "-i" are from Latin, such as cactus/cacti or focus/foci. However, "octopus" is from Greek, and its correct pluralization from Greek would be "octopodes." In English, we have also adopted "octopuses," which fits our standard pluralization rules.

So, "octopi" is actually a language mix up, though one that's so common that it seems to be accepted in English.

[–] iii@mander.xyz 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] superkret@feddit.org 6 points 2 days ago
[–] Semjaza@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 2 days ago

Actually, octopi is the "erroneous" one. Although it is a very common mistake so might make the shift to recognised before too much longer.

Everyone still understands it, so it doesn't matter.

[–] DrDystopia@lemy.lol 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Now I wonder how Octopie tastes like. It's probably related to seafood pizza. 🫠

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

IMO it's tragic to eat such an intelligent creature. Maybe stick to these guys...? Mmmm.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Seafood, eat it

[–] Rutty@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago

I have plastic vases that can have them on them. Should take 3 days total
