~~Will it last?~~ Will it do anything to stop the war crimes?

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 6 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah I'm not sure what "last" is supposed to mean here because it won't do anything to begin with.

No, the goal is extermination and this is expressly converse to that goal.

Even George Bush Jr. understood the concept of "you break it, you bought it." It is clear that Netanyahu sent troops into Gaza with no consideration for either 1) How basic needs like food, water and shelter would be provided to impacted civilians, or 2) What system of leadership would maintain order in Gaza following the war.

War crimes are war crimes whether they are by design or by incompetence. Israelis who are protesting the war rightly point out that this is not making Israel any safer, nor leading to the release of hostages, nor the return of the more than 100,000 internally displaced Israelis.

That's actually a relatively kind interpretation of Netanyahu's war. The government acknowledged it had received and was considering a proposal by former generals to use starvation to clear northern Gaza.

Israel has announced its intent to starve Gaza on 09. October 2023.

They have only relented slightly when they felt they went too fast for the western allies to ease into the concept. They have reiterated their intent multiple times since, including a minister stating that Israel would starve all 2 million people in Gaza to death, but the west wouldnt let it.

Still we dont see any substantial aid. If you need 500 trucks a day to maintain the most basic needs of people, sending in 50 trucks still means worsening the situation and depriving 90% of the people their needs.

Even the US demanded 350 trucks a day are still below the necessar minimum, so still intended at making things unlivable in the long run.

it's so bizarre that the world's uncontested super power is reduced to using sternly worded letter to the manager like some basic karen.

i get that this letter is intended to prove that the administration is taking efforts to end the genocide; but it makes me wonder about the world views of the people in the administration who somehow aren't aware that sternly-worded-letters are so laughably silly in this day and age that they're a meme.

It's been a year of utter atrocities, I suppose it was time to finally do something about it. /s

Its like ~~gentle~~ passive parenting with 0 proffesional assistance when your kid has conduct disorder (pediatric precursor to antisocial personality, the newer, updated version of psychopathy). "Can you please put the knife down sweetie? Knives make people sad!"

Good thing it's stern. I don't think they'll stop otherwise.

So happy the US managed to use its superpowers for good, for a change..
