a few weeks ago I heard NPR say something truly astounding. look at this shit:

Flooding has devastated several parts of the world in a short period of time

How did it happen that flooding has devastated several parts of the world at once? It turns out warmer air holds more water.

yeah no shit?!

I'm mixing quotes and paraphrases but this seems to be the article I heard.

NPR takes sponsorships from oil and gas companies shocked-pikachu

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 months ago

Not sure what you are insinuating. This article isn't good for oil or gas companies, and NPR is usually pretty good about letting listeners know when a potential conflict with a specific sponsor appears in their reporting.

Armageddon Storm

Y'all were worried about a 4C planet, but what happens when an ocean-sized turbo-washer obliterates human life in North America? Not so many emissions now, huh?

[–] buh@hexbear.net 20 points 3 months ago

we'll just send bruce willis to nuke it

Thank god we can all finally die

[–] SorosFootSoldier@hexbear.net 29 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Silly me, I thought we still had 20 or 30 years until the effects of climate change kicked in!

[–] buh@hexbear.net 17 points 3 months ago

People were saying that 20 years ago

[–] Alisu@hexbear.net 16 points 3 months ago

Maybe it's 20 or 30 years until we all die of the effects of climate change hahahahahahahahahahahaha ha ha

Three Atlantic Ocean hurricanes are ‘racing towards Europe’

Some deity's punishment? Maybe... lea-think

Hopefully any Europosters stay safe, though

Is the Armageddon hurricane a real thing?

I don't think we're gonna get a hurricane made out of lava that turns into a black hole but you never know

That was the event that taught me not to predict world events anymore

yea

I didn't think it was gonna happen either
Was at work when I got the news, from my friend who I had been talking with for weeks before about it during all the provocations. Was saying that Russia would never do it, that it was just more of the usual war-mongering imperialist lies

Didn't mean anything bad by my reply to you btw, I just thought was funny lol. There was a post a while back about how the opposite of whatever Hexbear thinks is gonna happen happens

Personally I'm kinda doomer-pilled and I think things will continue to get worse in ways beyond our comprehension

[–] Parzivus@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

Nah it was funny, I did a spit take when I opened my inbox lol

Lemmy search is awful but you eventually learn to work with it mypillow-stare

Never forgot how Hexbear thought Russia wasn't going to invade and I felt the same way at the time desolate

Give it time

[–] Alisu@hexbear.net 15 points 3 months ago

A black hole? That's ridiculous, even for fiction

[–] Alisu@hexbear.net 13 points 3 months ago (2 children)

How hypothetical are we talking? Completely made up?

[–] take_five_seconds@hexbear.net 19 points 3 months ago

completely made up fanfiction

There's also one where a solar flare creates a hurricane from space.

I love insular fanfic wikis

In 1974, when Geddy began to release his compilations of Syrinxist indoctrination songs, a fatwa requiring Harris's execution was proclaimed on Radio Megadon by Ayatollah Geddy Lee, the Supreme Leader of Syrinxia, calling the book "blasphemous against Syrinxism." A bounty was offered for the death of Harris, who was thus forced to live in hiding for years to come. The Tamagotchian police gave Harris a new identity. in 1976, the Republic of Tamagotchi and Syrinxia broke diplomatic relations over the Harris controversy. However, relations were restored in 1980 (for the Permanent Waves Tour).

it's funny because what normally would be barely organized tropical storms or depressions like instantly explode into Cat 4 and 5s now

the storm might have still hit Fl in a more climate stable world but it would have just been a rain event. instead looks like Tampa, Sarasota, or maybe Fort Myers are about to get 12ft of storm surge

load up google maps and look at the ridiculous, mind bogglingly stupid neighborhoods just built on sandbars with little canals. all McMansion ranches crammed together, with their glass enclosed pools and boats.

now imagine them under 12ft of roiling surf

for those that wish to witness nature's power and to help stimulate the imagination
