This is typical of Windows in general. You are basically a guest in your own computer, asking for permission to do something from Microsoft, or in this case, Nvidia.

Let's say it was stuck for 24 hours. At that point do you just decide to let the installer win? Try to keep it running as long as possible without ever restarting or trying to stop the installer?
