That's a great way to become part of a prisoner swap

Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed. Sources that have a Low or Very Low factual reporting rating or MBFC Credibility Rating may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF 10/19
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

The customs officer is just a box propped up by a stick
You usually do tours that are run by Chinese companies, and North Korea tries not to piss off China. I have a few friends who have gone
How fucking stupid do you have to be to voluntarily visit North Korea?
Just average stupid.
It's entirely possible though? Surprised that people don't know this.
You of course need to follow some strict rules and can only go see the government sanctioned sights and tours. From what I remember it's a lot of propaganda monuments and some caves.
Just behave and it's not really risky or anything. It does sound pretty dull to me though.
I would argue that travel to North Korea - the world’s most repressive totalitarian state, with a lengthy history of violent subjugation - is inherently risky.
No worries, I travelled to the USA multiple times and came back safely.
Do we know how dumb Dennis Rodman is?
Finally! How I have been waiting.
Yeah when I want to be shipped back with terminal brain damage I'll get right on that.
Seriously I get wanting to visit traditionally off limits destinations but don't make this one of yours.
I'll say it again for slow kids. Don't ever go to North Korea!
I feel like a lot of people here assume that you're going to be automatically arrested when going to DPRK but it's not completely true. You can get easily arrested and you have to follow strict cultural/government imposed rules.
The DPRK previously has done a "put it's best foot forward" and keep tourists in a bubble where you're not allowed to take pictures or videos unless in specifically permitted zones. It's essentially a propaganda tour.
So you definitely can go to the DPRK as a tourist but for the love of god follow their rules to the letter.

Or take your money and spend it in societies that respect human rights.

But at the same time, currently, there is no reason to go to NK other than to just say that you have.
I'd personally never go but there are people who do war zone tourism. I could see why a person would want to experience a full on propaganda tour made by an totalitarian regime with all those cold war era propaganda art.
There's a reason to go there other than to say you have, but it's not worth the risk for most people IMO.
you definitely can go to the DPRK as a tourist
But why would you want to?
There's hundreds of other countries to visit that don't treat their citizens like prisoners and their visitors like hostile spies.
I don't, but some people are weird.
Users of a particular sub-reddits dream has come true!
They are dumb as bricks but not enough to actually go there. They know it's a shithole, they're just being contrarians when praising it.
Watch some poor Russian dude try to escape recruitment by "escaping" to NK lol
mass tourism
Im afraid to know the numbers.

I 5 definitely want to go, but on a non-gov sponsored tour. My morbid curiosity needs to see what's up behind the curtains
Who are the masses that go to tourist there?
I'd say Russians, but they don't have a lot of the spare bodies and money needed to be going on vacation these days.
I'm thinking of offering free airfare for conservatives, since they love Kim Jong Un so much.
Who WOULDN'T want to experience the glorious worker's paradise of Best Korea?
