Hello new Lemmy friends!

Word on the street tells us our community is regularly making it the all page. While this is very cool news to hear, we can see how the sudden emergence of our posts in your feed might feel jarring and probably raises some questions. And also how, without knowing the backstory, our community might appear less than virtuous, so here’s a very brief introduction which hopefully will clear a few things up.

The woman we’re discussing is a body positive influencer and media personality who has gained fame and wealth by lying, manipulating, exploiting her children for content, plagiarizing BIPOC creators and blaming her BIPOC content editor for it (thereby ruining her career), among other things. Her fraudulent behavior is no different (I’d argue worse) from the likes of Jay Shetty (google him if you don’t know who he is or what he did). She’s the latest in a long line of grifting influencers who are abusing their power, taking advantage of their position and exploiting their followers. The difference is that she’s Canadian. Our laws around social media and advertising aren’t as clear (and where they are she’s disobeyed them), add to that, our mainstream media has protected her from those who’ve tried to expose her grift and silenced/intimidated anyone who’s tried to speak out.

Our Reddit sub was taken down due to reports of copyright infringement, which is unfounded and categorically untrue as no one ever tried to steal her work and pass it off as their own. The mods have made an appeal. While at first glance it may seem like we’re just “shitting on her” the sub has been more devoted to investigation and posting proof of her lies than just bitching for the sake of bitching. The reality is that she’s hurt, manipulated and let down a lot of people. She stole intellectual property and employment, caused mental distress and has repeatedly told lies to boost engagement and profit off her audience, so people are understandably upset that their voices are being silenced.

We’re grateful to have been welcomed so kindly by so many of you, and to those sticking around to watch the drama unfold, we’re glad to have you!

MODERATORS

Welcome new members! Please take a second to read the rules located in the community sidebar.

We are doing our best to appeal the Reddit ban. In the meantime, we thought it might be nice to have a new safe space to snark and have made lemmy.ca our new home.

Please bear with us while we figure the new site out and please let any former TBP Reddit users know we are here!

In regard to the Reddit ban - I think it’s an effort in futility to start a sub with Birdie as the focus. It’s just going to get shutdown; which is ridiculous since she should not be above scrutiny but this is what it is. We might consider a more general snark for a period of time while things cool down?

A CDNdeinfuenced page was started, not a single mention of her and it was still banned. This seemed like a safe route to me as NYC and LA both have their influencer snark communities but no. There are some very serious censorship issues I hope Reddit will be seeing clearly. These influencers are businesses and must be held accountable

You’re right! There was absolutely no reason for that sub to be taken down with the reasoning it was replicating a banned sub. It wasn’t. It was something different and the princess just happened to be caught in the umbrella of it being for ALL Cdn influencers! I don’t know anything about Reddit or how it makes its decisions but it doesn’t stand up for its users

[–] FraudulentFruit1@lemmy.ca 9 points 5 months ago

Yes I just commented about this! I can’t believe it was banned for literally nothing!

[–] Bitchwhiskers@lemmy.ca 13 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Agree. We could snark about airbnbs. 😏

[–] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 15 points 5 months ago (3 children)

I was thinking a snark about Knix could work. We can talk about the brand partners and ambassadors, about how Knix says it’s inclusive but it’s cut out it’s trans influencer now that they don’t need her anymore, how it manipulated the SI appearance, how its product is too expensive and generally sucks. How its founder is hypocrite, the weird relationship between the Princess and Queen Panties. It seems like she is her personal pet project. She’s helping the poor, divorced, young, single mother live her dreams of taking off her clothes for money

[–] OddQuality@lemmy.ca 11 points 5 months ago (3 children)

I'd be willing to bet Knix/Joanna has a lot to do with getting the sub banned. Birdie doesn't have that kind of money or power, but Joanna does.

I was saying the same thing. Literally the day before the sub was banned, there was a post on our sub showing those negative Glassdoor reviews for knix. Then all of a sudden the next morning we are wiped out. We also even had one private sub that was not an actual replacement, nothing on there would've alluded to it being the case imo, and still banned. Its ridiculous

I really like the idea of starting a sub , even if a private one, with our same members but make it very clearly not a replacement. Like even just state its for our members to hang out and discuss anything, influencer culture or pop culture etc. I would be interested to see if it gets shut down, even if any TBP reference was written cryptically or something. Idk I am upset. I'm glad to see this new site, struggling learning to navigate it and to find where things are and figure out who is who 😆

I feel like it’s good though that we can waste pantyqueen’s $ on hiring people to go and wipe all negative press.then even if they sign NDAs you know they end up in snarks.

[–] BirdsaLiar@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 months ago

This is what I think as well

[–] olivesandpoppies@lemmy.ca 9 points 5 months ago (2 children)

I have bought from knucks (trying to avoid the brand mention) and only 1 product was good :(. As someone in the rainbow community I’m furious to know that this brand dropped a trns influencer! That alone should have started a boyctt

[–] MoonChild@lemmy.ca 6 points 5 months ago

Her feelings were very hurt and she posted about it publicly during or right after the Club trip to Cabo

Her name is Jamie Pandit (justjamiep on IG). She’s awesome and worth a follow imo!
