This is really cool, but can someone with some knowledge of aerodynamics and whatnot explain if this shape have any advantage over "regular" spaceships?
It's the old rule-of-cool ;) Not the form follows function you describe. I'm in the same boat - for me it looks cool if you can see why something is there.
