What good is auctioning them off to help people's rights when you help Hitler 2 ascend to crush all people's rights?

I was operating off of the (now shown to be correct) assumption that they would sell out anyway because he has enough braindead followers to buy up the limited quantity of sneakers, and/or the whole thing is a scam to bypass some campaign finance law or another, and the actual impact of the decisiontof an individual to buy them would be negligible.
