Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

This post reads to me like the typical in-group out-group type of thinking where the essence of the entire “out-group” is boiled down to most hateful exaggeration of their position in order to (and in this case hypocritically because it’s what you are accusing them of doing) dehumanize them.

Then your reading comprehension is low. They're still human, I'm not trying to deny them basic rights, and I'm not exaggerating anything. Trump is a rapist. This is a fact. Trump is also the front runner for the Republican Party. This is also a fact. Trump maintains that massive support after he installed 3 justices which lead to the overturning of Roe and has led to a state where women have fewer rights. Even in cases of rape, where a women's bodily autonomy has been violently taken from her, she may not be able to exercise control of her own body to abort. Republicans are arguing right now that women shouldn't be able to voluntarily divorce. So yeah, for shorthand, Republicans don't believe women deserve equal rights, and thus don't believe women are the same amount of human they are.

Nothing has really changed in 20 years.

20 years ago women had bodily autonomy. Book bans were things we read about in school done by fascist governments. Vaccinating was not controversial and polio had been all but eradicated. White Replacement Theory was not on the most popular primetime "news" show. Mocking service members who lost limbs in war for this country was career ending. The list goes on and on.

It’s close mindedness

No, it's not, and choosing to engage in these sorts of arguments in good faith is already ceding ground that simply should not be. One side: "I would like us to go to Dairy Queen." Other side: "I want us to eat dog shit." Side one: "no." Side two: "you're just not being open minded! let's debate this great idea!"

I do believe that there is something wrong with the modern day republican party

Phew, that's the easy, obviously correct position.

revealed to be everything they openly hated about Clinton (other than liberal)

I can guarantee you that none of these people could articulate a thing they hated about Clinton.

but closing yourself off to them

"Really need to check out this dogshit idea." Tbh this is just the free market doing its thing. If I open a dogshit restaurant, I'd expect that I'd quickly go out of business. Republicans are choosing policy positions that are not only not popular, they pretty easily provably lead to worse outcomes for most Americans. Most of these things are not moral or philosophical debate. Speaking of, another thing that's changed in 20 years - access to information. While you're right Republicans haven't really had good positions in my lifetime, they've moved to more extremes, and information about what they're doing is more widely available. Like, there has been an undercurrent of racism in the party for a very long time, but it was easy to dismiss because leaders at least still spoke in dogwhistles. Trump is just flagrantly racist, and, again, still the front runner.

Anyway, this is the difference. Republican positions are to ban things and ideas they don't like. Words like "eradicate" come up a lot when talking about other people. Listen to a trump speech, DeSantis speech, etc. They season them all with frankly genocidal language. The other side is "vermin." This is what it means to dehumanize. You'll find none of that in my comment. Republicans are human, just stupid or greedy humans. I don't believe that they don't deserve to exist, I believe they deserve better educations and economic outcomes so they stop holding such dogshit ideas.
