I'm just waiting for more tone policing from the "liberal media" about other ways that cons being disengaged from by normal Americans is so unfair and terrible to the cons.

I've said it multiple times in other venues, but I know for a fact of several instances where someone who was full-on MAGA was quietly left out of social plans. I've never heard someone murmur, "uh, they voted for Biden, and they watch MSNBC all the time, they start up with that ultra-left stuff all the time, they'll ruin everything, don't invite them to Easter/Thanksgiving/dinner plans/cookout/etc.", but I definitely have heard that about orange blob supporters that are glued to Faux and hate radio.

I'm sure I'm not the only one to have noticed this. I'm just wondering when we get op-eds from the likes of David Brooks about how awful and unfair this quiet shunning of the crazies on the right is.

Um. Yeah. Because those blowhards are intolerable when I'm forced to interact with them. Why would i or anyone rational choose to?

Anyone who has nothing to talk about or identify with besides politics is tedious; even people I agree with. The thing is that people who skew left tend to not also have the baked in racism and sexism. Also, maga types generally revel in the whole "heh heh, cry harder, lib" bad faith, mean spirited talking over instead of with variety of interacting

Exactly what I'm saying. I'm sure there are examples of insufferable lefties that won't shut up about politics even in neutral social settings, but I have not really experienced them. The right has so many examples of this that there is lot of shorthand ways of talking about this phenomenon - "Crazy Uncle Liberty" and so on.

I've read articles going way back (maybe in 2015/2016, even?) where on the dating scene, obvious Republicans/cons/trump supporters were being passed over; I don't blame anyone that not skips dating these people, but also does not invite them over for a BBQ. In social situations, it's always at least a buzzkill, in some situations, it might even be dangerous - such as women dating conservative men.

Your anecdote is not evidence. Because I’ve seen exactly what you haven’t seen. And the people being left out aren’t even all that far left.

But I’ve also intentionally left out maga fucks because they literally want me, an LGBTQ person, dead. So yea, I’ll ’tone police’ them and leave them to be lonely all day. I don’t cavort with bigots that would murder me given the right conditions.

So tell me, what’s the problem with me being what’s wrong with kicking maga folks out of my social circles?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I'm saying this for any maga types that don't realize they are being quietly left out of social situations. I wholeheartedly approve those that choose to leave these people out of their plans.

The tone police are the people in the "liberal media" that keep acting like there is some kind of moral equivalency between people that want to have equal rights, and want clean air and clean water and responsible and science-based government, and so on vs. the right that wants to put the boot on the neck of anyone not like themselves.

[–] zbyte64@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago

Your right the liberal media is holier-than-though preachy. It is also true the Republican party is identitarian and exclusionary.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

That's a very childish way of looking at this. You assume that voting for Biden, or being leftish, is as bad as voting for Trump or being MAGA. It seems that its not.

[–] OmenAtom@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Did you even read what they said? They never once espoused that

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

It's basically all that they are staying. "Why are leftish not being treated like MAGA".

It's because MAGA is worse that being leftish.

[–] OmenAtom@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

It not at all what theyre saying? They are saying that the people on the right are being excluded because of their actions, and made a joke expecting one of them to complain about the consequences of their actions. At no point did they say that leftist individuals are worse?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No, what I'm saying is that I see moderate/apolitical/slightly liberal people decide to leave the redhats out of their plans. Because the redhats are insufferable. I don't see evidence of this same group leaving out people that have voted for Obama/Biden/Hillary, etc...

There is a reason for that - the right has so radicalized themselves that their leading candidate's biggest fans are nearly impossible to be around in a social setting.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm not sure that I follow, even though we seem to agree.

But you're comparing apples to "oranges". The two sides are not equal opposites. One side has drifted way out of the scale

I believe we agree on that but your way of saying it is very confusing. You can't compare the "redhats" with "Biden/Obama voters".

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes, that's what I'm saying. I'm saying Biden/Obama voters are not viewed the same way because they are not some kind of equal, but opposite, kind of thing. The redhats seem to be on some kind of violent cult thing and casually talk about civil war, executing others, and so on.

[–] cosmicrookie@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well it seems like mostly everybody had misunderstood you then. Maybe there was a better way of making your point?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Shrug, I dunno. Maybe. I'm not sure everyone read the entirety of my initial comment, or if they just don't understand the David Brooks reference, who is well-known for tone-policing in a lame and ridiculous bid to "both sides" kind of arguments, in order to prop up the conservatives.
